Adele has revealed her mum was not impressed with her gum-chewing when she won her recent Grammy Award.


The 21-year-old British singer picked up the Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance awards at the Grammies in February, but when she phoned her mum to tell her, she was more worried about her gum-chewing.


She said: "When the award for Best New Artist was announced, I was so convinced that the Jonas Brothers or Duffy were going to win, I wasn't prepared at all.


"I'd undone my belt and I had chewing gum in my mouth.


"I nearly cried during my speech but I thought: 'No, I can't because of the Kate Winslet Golden Globe moment. One British person doing that is enough for one year.'


"When I came off stage and rang my mum to tell her, she was like: 'Yeah, I saw... you had gum in your mouth!' I don't think she was impressed!"
