Altered images: Kelly Clarkson named Most Inspiring Woman 2009 by airbrush controversy magazine

Kelly Clarkson has been named the Most Inspiring Woman 2009 - by the very same magazine that sparked controversy by using an airbrushed image of the singer on the front cover.

Clarkson, who is at the centre of a media storm for being noticeably larger in real-life, ironically opened up to the US fitness magazine about being digitally altered on the front cover of her latest album.

"I was like: 'Oh, my God! This does not look like me!" the 27-year-old said about the picture on All I Ever Wanted - a half-length shot of her in a black leather jacket.

The American Idol winner later wrote on her blog: "It's very colourful and they [Self magazine] have definitely Photoshopped the crap out of me, but I don't care!"

The fitness magazine named her their Most Inspiring Woman of 2009 for "staying proud of her curves despite almost constant sniping".

Asked if she is happy with her weight now, Clarkson said: "When people talk about my weight, I'm like: 'You seem to have a problem with it: I don't. I'm fine!' I've never felt uncomfortable on a red carpet or anything."

Clarkson, who has moved from Hollywood to Nashville, Tennessee to avoid the constant glare of media scrutiny, added: "Self-confidence comes from not focusing on yourself.

"Anyway, who cares what they say about you? They'll not even remember you in five minutes."
