Amy Adams: I was a Hooters girl

She got an Oscar nod for playing a nun, but Amy Adams reveals she wore nothing but hot pants and a tank top when she worked in a bar.

The 34-year-old redhead has revealed she used to be a Hooters Girl at the US bar chain.

The waitress uniform is a far cry from the floor-length habit Adams wore in the Oscar-nominated movie Doubt.

"I spent a lot of time doing theatre and hanging around in tights and leotards," said Amy.

"I wasn't overly shy, so I couldn't imagine there'd be much difference wearing a little pair of shorts and a little top.

"[But] there was a big difference."

Adams makes her saucy revelation in an interview with Parade, a US newspaper supplement.

Although she has been nominated twice for an Oscar - for Junebug in 2005 and Doubt in February - success has come relatively late for the actress.

In 2002, Steven Spielberg cast her in his movie Catch Me If You Can, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, but it didn't do well at the box office and the Mormon-raised beauty had to wait until 2007, when she made her mark in Enchanted.

"Everything happens for a reason," she says.

"I realised there would be many false starts. I wasn't counting on things to happen then."

Adams is currently in Dublin filming her new project Leap Year, but admits to missing her home in Los Angeles.

"I have my fiancé, Darren Le Gallo, my dog and my friends," she says.

Amy has recently finished filming her second movie with Meryl Streep - Julie & Julia.

The two women also played opposite each other in Doubt, as Catholic nuns in the 1960s.

Amy enjoyed working with Streep again. "Meryl gave me huge faith in myself, a real sense of validity," she said.

"She set an example. There was no handholding, no condescending. What could give you more confidence and more reason to do your best?"
