Babyshambles star Pete Doherty reportedly caused havoc at a London store after picking up £1,000 of clothes but had no money to pay for the garments.

The 30-year-old star held up staff at the Fred Perry store in London's Covent Garden for two hours after its closing time as he picked out items.

However, when it came to paying for the items, he admitted he had no way of paying and was forced to leave the store red-faced.

An insider said: "He kept bringing armfuls of clothes to the counter, including a selection of baby blue polo shirts.

"Pete looked bewildered after turning out his pockets to find he had no cash. He called a mate to bring a credit card. His mate eventually turned up but the card was declined."
