High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale opens up about after-school job

High School Musical Star Ashley Tisdale has revealed she worked in clothes stores as a teenager, despite being a successful actress.

The 24-year-old says that her parents wanted her to "learn the value of a dollar" so, despite growing up in the spotlight, she did normal things like having an after-school job.

"My mum and dad wanted me to have a normal childhood, so I went to regular school my whole life so I could have those experiences," the actress and singer says.

"I worked in clothing stores growing up, even though I didn't really have to.

"They wanted me to learn the value of a dollar. At an early age, I knew what I wanted."

Apart from her role in High School Musical, Tisdale starred in the Disney Channel show Suite Life of Zack & Cody for three years, as well as shows from Beverly Hills 90210 to Hannah Montana.

She has no qualms about getting third billing in the High School Musical films as Sharpay Evans.

Tisdale says: "When I'm in a movie, I'm not one of those people who forgets their place.

"I was a third lead in that movie. I was not the star of High School Musical.

"It was always based on Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens' characters. I loved my character - she was amazing - but she wasn't the star."
