Katy Perry's strawberry-coloured birthday party

Katy Perry's birthday bash was not the zoo party that was rumoured but it was hardly tame.

The singer was given a Willy Wonka-style party in Hollywood that offered oodles of sweets and left guests splattered in strawberry jam-coloured paint.

New beau Russell Brand and country music sensation Taylor Swift were among guests whose photos were later posted to Perry's Twitter page. Perry wore white to begin with but her outfit acquired multi-coloured pastel designs. At one point guests appeared to writhe on the floor as they were covered in the jam-coloured paint.

Perry had tweeted on her strawberry-decorated Twitter page: "Hope nobody starts their period tonight!!!! It's about to go OFF!!! #happybirthdaykaty heehee! Weeee!"

She also wrote: "Getting ready for my Willy Wonka extravaganza!!! Thanks @minxnailsdotcom for my custom Oompa nails!"

The party was held at The Beach restaurant on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood.
