Mariah Carey took to the sands of a Malibu beach to show off her tawny frame and a sly butterfly tattoo on the small of her back.


In photos that surfaced, Carey at 40 looked amazing and toned, as she waded in the waters of the beautiful California coastline. The singer, who has just released a new album titled Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, was not kicking back. She was hard at work filming a video for a new single titled H.A.T.E.U.


Of her new album she this week gushed: "I am really a perfectionist when it comes to music. I've always been the type of person that would hear a thousand good things and one negative thing and focus on that negative thing. But this album I'm loving because I took chances. I did a lot of different interludes. I did a lot of things that are different for me."


Carey also revealed this week that she understood the issue of abuse. Speaking to Larry King, she responded to a soul-baring interview by pop diva Rihanna on the subject of domestic violence. Responding to a question about whether or not she had been abused, Carey said: "Emotionally, mentally."
