Tom Cruise's hidden weakness was his teeth - Swayze memoir

Patrick Swayze's just-released autobiography has some tantalising Hollywood tid bits.

Swayze says Tom Cruise was so self-conscious about his teeth, he refused to appear in magazine shoots. The pair appeared as unknowns together in The Outsiders, a Francis Ford Coppola film that came out in 1983.

In The Time Of My Life, which was co-written with Lisa Niemi, Swayze said relations between him and his co-star Jennifer Grey were icy to start. Though the pair had appeared as bandidos in Red Dawn, it was "probably safe to say she couldn't stand me".

He continued: "We had never danced together, and she probably still thought of me as that half-crazed warrior from Red Dawn.

"But as I led her through a couple of steps at the Dirty Dancing audition, we found a comfortable rhythm. As we danced, I decided she was lithe and balanced enough to try some lifts. On the last one, she posed beautifully, and as I lowered her slowly to the ground, our eyes locked on each other. It was a lovely moment and very sexy."

Making the movie, which shot Swayze to stardom, was hard, however, and the pair often chafed during re-shoots and after a day's shooting when they were tired.
