3 Doors Down Biography
3 Doors Down was formed in Mississippi in 1994 which plays rock music. The first members who formed the band are: Brad Arnold (d.o.b undisclosed), both the drummer and vocalist in the group; Matt Roberts (d.o.b. undisclosed), the guitarist, and Todd Harrell (d.o.b. undisclosed), 3 Doors Down’s bassist. The group got a deal with Universal Records after they released their track: “Kryptonite” which was a huge success.
Arnold, Roberts, and Harrell, the first members of 3 Doors Down, grew up together in Escatawpa and all shared the passion for rock music. The group gained experience performing locally, singing both original and cover songs which were eventually included in their debut album. The band then started touring outside of Escatawpa, and it was during their trip to Alabama that they decided to use the stage name: “3 Doors Down”, with the words: “Doors Down” coming from a sign in an old building. They decided to add the number 3 since there were 3 members in the group.
After two years, another guitarist was added: Chris Henderson (d.o.b. undisclosed), and eventually, Universal Records took interest, thereby signing 3 Doors Down. In 2000, the group’s debut album entitled ”The Better Life” was launched and even became one of the best selling albums of the year 2000, specially because it spawned a number of internationally recognized hits such as "Kryptonite", "Duck and Run", and “Loser”. Another single: "Be Like That", also gained fame as it was featured in the film: “American Pie 2”.
In 2002, 3 Doors Down released their sophomore album:”Away from the Sun” and turned 4x platinum in the US as well as certified platinum in Australia. The album included very successful hits like "When I'm Gone" and “Here Without You”. “Away From the Sun” also gave way to the hiring of additional members: Josh Freese (d.o.b. undisclosed) on drums and Alex Lifeson (d.o.b. undisclosed) on guitars. The two were asked to join the recording of some of the tracks in the album like “Dead Love”, Dangerous Game”, etc. A touring member: Daniel Adair (d.o.b. February 19, 1975) was also hired to be the drummer for the band’s album tour.
The following year (2003), 3 Doors Down started hosting a benefit concert entitled: “"3 Doors Down and Friends" which was repeated in 2006 with the aim to help Hurricane Katrina victims. In 2005, the band released their third album:”Seventeen Days” which turned platinum, and gave way to two successful singles: "Behind Those Eyes" and “Let Me Go”. It was also in 2005 when Adair left the band and transferred to Nickelback. He was replaced by Greg Upchurch (d.o.b. December 1, 1971), who used to play for Puddle of Mudd.
In May of last year ’08, 3 Doors Down launched their fourth album which was self-titled. It reached the number one spot on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 150,000 copies within 7 days of its first release. “Train”, “It’s Not My Time”, etc. are some of the hit singles found in the album. 3 Doors Down is currently working on a new album, which is believed to be up for release in 2010.
