High School Musical Star Ashley Tisdale has revealed she worked in clothes stores as a teenager, despite being a successful actress.

The 24-year-old says that her parents wanted her to "learn the value of a dollar" so, despite growing up in the spotlight, she did normal things like having an after-school job.

"My mum and dad wanted me to have a normal childhood, so I went to regular school my whole life so I could have those experiences," the actress and singer says.

"I worked in clothing stores growing up, even though I didn't really have to.

"They wanted me to learn the value of a dollar. At an early age, I knew what I wanted."

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale could not hold back her screams as she was blindfolded by TV host Alexa Chung.

The actress was blindfolded in the British star's show It's On With Alexa Chung, and was then made to touch a series of food items without knowing what they were.

As she touched some jelly, Tisdale immediately pulled away her hand - and let out a scream.

But Chung grabbed her hand and plunged it back in, leaving Tisdale screaming once again.

"That was disgusting!" she said, amazed when told that she had only touched a bit of jelly.

Ashley Tisdale: “Michael Jackson's death was such a shock”

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale has spoken of her "shock" about Michael Jackson's sudden death.

Jackson had been working with HSM choreographer Kenny Ortega just days before he died, aged 50, of a reported heart attack.

"I've loved Michael, his music, his music videos... I've always been inspired by him. I think he's such a great dancer," said Tisdale.

Talking about the pop superstar's sudden death last week, she said: "It was definitely a shock. It's really hard when a celebrity dies out of nowhere... it's very shocking."

The snap was one of several from Ashley's family album dug out by her proud parents for a yearbook message congratulating her on graduating from Valencia High School in Southern California in 2003.

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale is still "good friends" with ex-boyfriend Jared Murillo, according to Jared's father.

Ashley, 23, and Jared, 20, split earlier this month after claims that they just "grew apart". But Jared's dad Alex said: "They remain good friends."

His dad told People: "They are in the same circle, they have the same friends. And you know what? You never know how life turns out. They might hook up again, you just never know."

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale has rebounded from her recent breakup from boyfriend Jared Murillo by stepping out with a new man.

Tisdale, 23, began dating back-up dancer Murillo, 20, in March 2007 and the pair were snapped buying promise rings at Na Hoku jewellers in Los Angeles.

But they split recently, although sources close to the couple claim they have remained "good friends".

According to reports in the US, Tisdale has already been spotted out with a music video director called Scott Speer.
