Avril Lavigne Biography

Avril Lavigne was born on September 27th, 1984. She is a Canadian singer, song writer, fashion designer, and actress. Avril was born to a french father and Franco-Ontarian mother in Belleville, Ontario. She was named after her birth month April, in French. Avril has an older brother Matthew, and a younger sister Michelle.

Lavigne won a competition in 1998 to sing with Shania Twain on her first major concert tour and sang What Made You Say That. In November 2000, Avril was signed to Arista Records, she however dismissed them as she wanted to write the album herself. She had numerous conflicts with Arista due to the musical direction they wanted to take. Lavigne's debut album Let Go in 2002 and collaborated with the production team The Matrix to make it.

Avril does not regularly eat meat, although she says she snags a bite of a cheeseburger now and again. She will not say she is a vegetarian "in case anyone caught her eating meat".

Lavigne has a star on the inside of her wrist (left) that matches what was used on her first album artwork. Ben Moody, one of her friends, has an identical tattoo. In 2004 she had a small pink heart shaped tattoo featuring the letter D applied to her wrist (right) that represents her ex-husband Deryck Whibley (singer and frontman for the band Sum 41). The two began dating in February 2004 and on June 27th 2005 they became engaged. Deryck was a true romantic, taking her on a trip to Venice, gave her a gondola ride, a romantic picnic and proposed.

Lavigne filed for divorce from Whibley in October of 2009, citing 'irreconcilable differences'.

Avril said in an interview in 2004 that her favorite song was "Hey Ya" by Outkast.
