I think this song could be describing a school shooting/suicide that goes something like this:
The rain taps the window as the boy shoots others and then himself. The Girl gets up once the shooting is over, thanking God that she's still alive. But then she sees her boyfriend. He has been shot and mortally wounded. They take him to the hospital, where she she stays by his side as the days go on forever. At the beginning, hope fills her heart and she thinks he might survive. She decides that if if he dies, then so will she. But then as his skin turns as white as winter, the hope fades away. She prays that he will make it, but in one rare moment when he is awake, she sees that the pain in his eyes has chased away the person he once was. He doesn't even recognize her. So now she prays that he will die, so he won't be hurting anymore. So he sings the Anthem of the Angels, and says his last goodbye. She keeps holding onto him, but she can't bring him back to life.
