The group started in 1987 at the Louisiana State University where the original members studied. One year after the formation, Better than Ezra made available their demo cassette tape they called the “Chime Street Demo”, and though it was not released officially, the demo tape became a collector’s item. In 1989, the group launched a ‘cassette only album’ entitled “Surprise”. After its release, Better than Ezra’s guitarist, Rundell, committed suicide.

The members of the band decided to take a break and reunited only as a trio. Better than Ezra launched their first album in the year 1993: “Deluxe” which was distributed nationwide by Elektra Records. One of the album’s singles “Good” became successful and topped the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart at the latter part of 1995.

Shortly thereafter, drummer Bonnecaze left Better than Ezra, resulting to McNabb becoming the band’s drummer. McNabb used to play for the group: Vigilantes of Love. The group’s song: “Juicy” also became popular as it can be heard in the background of the show: Desperate Housewives Season 2. “Juicy” was also utilized as the background music of Applebee Restaurant’s advertisements.

In February of the current year (2009), McNabb let go of Better than Ezra and performed last with the group during Metairie’s Family Gras. McNabb stated that he left because of his tight schedule, specifically his tour with the group: Sugarland. McNabb was replaced with Jerome, who used to be a member of Pleasure Club. The band’s latest album “Paper Empire” is expected to be launched in May 12 of the present year.
