Sunday, August 12th marks the end of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England, and you’d better believe that the Closing Ceremony will go out with more than a bang. We’ve enjoyed all of the Olympic news events that took place over the past two weeks, but honestly, the Closing Ceremony on Sunday sounds the most exciting to us! With all of these confirmed (and rumored) performers at the ceremony, we’re assuming the show will be one of the most anticipated events of all time. But who are these artists that may or may not show up? Here’s the list of pop stars & the potential songs they’ll sing on this edition of Playlistin’…
10. Jessie J — God Save The Queen
“God Save the Queen / God save our gracious Queen / Long live our noble Queen / God save the Queen!”
The first artist on our countdown is for sure confirmed: British pop superstar Jessie J will most likely open the Closing Ceremony with her rendition of the UK’s national anthem. Do you guys think she’ll do a good job? With killer pipes like Jessie’s, we’re assuming she’ll be amazing!
9. Kaiser Chiefs — Ruby
“Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby / And do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya / Know what ya doing, doing to me?”
Another confirmed band playing the Closing Ceremony is Kaiser Chiefs, and although they haven’t released any new music lately, they are still considered one of the best modern rock bands to come out of the UK! We’re assuming they’ll play their biggest hit today, “Ruby” — do you think they’ll play something else?
8. George Michael — Faith
“Because I’ve got to have faith / I’ve got to have faith / Because I’ve got to have faith / Faith”
Although famous pop singer George Michael hasn’t officially been confirmed to play the Closing Ceremony, the Brit apparently tweeted that he was nervous to appear at the event! Way to spill the beans, George. If he plays, we’re going to assume he blasts out one of his best songs ever: “Faith”.
7. Muse – Survival
“Yes, I am gonna win / And I will light the fuse / And I’ll never lose / And I choose to survive”
Again, Muse hasn’t been confirmed to show at the Ceremony, but with the official 2012 Olympic anthem “Survival” under their belts, they have to come out and play it, right?
6. One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful
“Right now I’m looking at you and I can’t believe / You don’t know / Oh oh / You don’t know you’re beautiful”
People have been gossiping about the world’s hottest boy band appearing at the Closing Ceremony on Sunday because, well, they’re so popular it’s insane! And, of course, all of the guys hail from the UK, so they would be happily welcomed into the ceremony by all of the British females in the audience!
5. Pet Shop Boys — Winner
“This is the moment we’ll remember / Every day for the rest of our lives / Time may rush us, hurt or love us / But on this day we have arrived”
Talk about timing: iconic 80s new-wave group Pet Shop Boys just released their new song “Winner” this week, and the lyrics totally relate to the Olympics, so the rumor is that the Boys will definitely show at the Ceremony!
4. Emeli Sande — Heaven
“Oh heaven, oh heaven / I wake with good intentions / But the day it always lasts too long”
Miss Emeli Sande did perform at the Opening Ceremony two weeks ago today, but there are rumors flying around that she’ll be back again for the Closing show. Do you think she’ll return to the Olympic Stadium on Sunday?
3. Ed Sheeran – The A Team
“And they say / She’s in the Class A Team / Stuck in her daydream / Been this way since 18″
When the Opening Ceremony was going live, the word on the street was that adorable singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran would team up with legendary classic rock band Pink Floyd for an epic performance, but obviously that didn’t happen. So, who knows: maybe Ed will show up solo at the Closing Ceremony and perform his most known hit “The A Team”?
2. The Who — Baba O’ Riley
“Out here in the fields, I fight for my meals / I get my back into my living / I don’t need to fight to prove I’m right / I don’t need to be forgiven”
And now, another confirmed act you can count on playing the Closing Ceremony: British rock legends The Who! We’re not sure if they’ll play their epic theme “Baba O’ Riley”, but we kinda hope they do…it’s such a pump-up jam!
1. Spice Girls – Spice Up Your Life
“Colors of the world / Spice up your life / Every boy and every girl / Spice up your life / People of the world / Spice up your life”
And the act we’re most excited to see at the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony is…The Spice Girls! With rumors swirling that the Girls have been rehearsing for their performance, we honestly hope the show closes with the Spice’s rendition of one of their best songs “Spice Up Your Life”.
Who are you most stoked to see at the 2012 Summer Olympic Closing Ceremony in London, England this Sunday?
