It seems like all the reality shows that have been around for a while are looking to refresh themselves: The X-Factor just cleaned house and hired all new judges (Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, as you know), Tyra recently did an overhaul of the cast on America’s Next Top Model (we’ll miss you Miss J!), and American Idol recently lost Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and — just confirmed today — Randy Jackson. But although it’s sad to say goodbye to some favorites, we’re also really excited for new judges like Mariah Carey and (the rumoured) Nicki Minaj. Here are three more artists we (and YOU, according to Facebook comments) want to see judging hopeful singers on American Idol this season…
Katy Perry is a veteran in the pop music biz by now and with her status as one of the biggest popstars in the world, she’d be an amazing ressource to the lucky contestants on American Idol. She could offer up advice on everything from crossing-over genres (she was once a Christian rock singer!) to how to wear complicated stage costumes with grace.
Bruno Mars is a musician, songwriter, producer, singer, dancer, sometimes-actor… We need air after saying all those things in one sentence! The point is: he’d be an awesome expert if he became a judge on the show. He would be able to recognize any time anybody messed up because he knows about every aspect of performing and music — which would be intimidating for contestants but would also push them to work that much harder.
Alicia Keys has been on American Idol before as a mentor to contestants but that was a limited role in the show. We would love to see her bring her expertise, talent, and confidence to the judges panel. She knows the music biz well and we think she’d have great insight into what fans are looking for in an artist. We also think she’d be very honest with people who don’t quite make the cut.
Who else do you think would make a good judge? Do you agree with our picks? Tell us below!
