Legendary CCR frontman John Fogerty is releasing a new album, Wrote A Song For Everyone, as a celebration of his iconic songbook. The album features a selection of classic hits that John has re-recorded with some of music’s biggest superstars, including Foo Fighters, Bob Seger, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, and more. In addition the album also includes two new original tracks from John, one of which is a song called “Mystic Highway,” a 6-plus minute country epic that we’re bringing to you today in the form of the official “Mystic Highway” lyric video — which, by the way, is one of the better lyric videos we’ve seen, and we’ve seen a lot of lyric videos!

Welcome to Liner Notes, MetroLyrics’ interview series featuring songwriters discussing their craft. In this episode, we sit down with Emeli Sandé to discuss her lyrics and songwriting.

The UK singer-songwriter tells us how she began writing songs at the age of 8(!), which began with her penning lyrics to songs before she was even able to play music. Emeli also discusses where she finds the inspiration for specific songs, most notably “My Kind Of Love,” one of the stand-out tracks from her latest album Our Version of Events. ”I love writing,” says Emeli. “I think I’ll write forever — I don’t know if I’ll still be singing when I’m older, but writing is definitely something that will be with me and is my way of expressing myself.”

If you can believe it, American country singer/songwriter Lisa Matassa started off her career in the 80′s as a dance recording artist. Yep, that’s right, kind of like how Alanis Morissette started out. Now that she’s found her country roots, Lisa’s got three albums under her belt that follow her true genre, the most recent being the Somebody’s Baby EP. Just in time for Mother’s Day, Lisa shared her handwritten lyrics to the EP’s title track, “Somebody’s Baby”, which describes how we’re all our mother’s children and it’s important to remember that. We love Lisa’s use of color in her handwritten lyrics, and if you like the song, why not share it with your mom this Mother’s day?

Brooklyn, New York natives American Authors are an indie-rock four-piece with a story to tell. Band members Zachary Barnett, James Adam Shelley, Matt Sanchez and Dave Rublin met while attending the Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA., and have been making music together since, going through a name change or two along the way. Just this year, the band settled on the American Authors label and have begun to garner buzz in earnest. The band’s debut single “Believer” is as catchy sing-along style track, and we’re lucky to have the exclusive premiere of the song’s new lyric video right here.
