Carrie Underwood Biography

Carrie Underwood was born in 1983, on the 10th of March with the name: Carie Marie Underwood. She is both a songwriter and a singer, known for the genre of country pop. Underwood started becoming a famous artist after she won in American Idol’s fourth season. Carrie Underwood is now known for her records’ multi-platinum sales as well as winning in the Grammy Award for a number of times.

Carrie Underwood was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, being one of the children of Carole and Stephen Underwood. Carrie was raised in a farm together with her sisters Stephanie and Shanna. In her younger years, she sang for the Free Will Baptist Church and also performed over at the Robbins Memorial Talent Show. Carrie also sang at Checotah local events e.g. Old Settler’s Day, events at the Lion’s Club, etc. In the year 1996, she was supposed to sign a deal with Capitol Records, but the deal did not push through because of the change in management.
In 2001, Carrie graduated as salutatorian of her class in Checotah High School. She then proceeded to study in the Northeastern State University where she graduated as magna cum laude in the year 2006. She also had performances in NSU’s Country Show and even joined the Miss NSU pageant, where she emerged as one of the runners-up during the year 2004.
It was also in the same year (2004) when Carrie joined the American Idol auditions in St. Louis. She became one of the lucky finalists and amazed the judges with her rendition of the rock song entitled “Alone”. Carrie won the title of “American Idol” in that season (May 2005) and boasts of not ever being included in the bottom three during eliminations. It was also during American Idol that Underwood’s very loyal fan base was formed: “Carrie’s Care Bears”, headed by Linda Denham, who was also a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, Carrie’s sorority.

During American Idol’s fifth season, Carrie Underwood sang “Jesus Take The Wheel”, one of her most famous singles. Carrie also became part of the “Idol Gives Back” concert where she performed one of her newest songs: "I'll Stand By You", which also featured Rascal Flatts, Kelly Clarkson, etc. Just last February of this year (2009), Carrie performed with other American Idol champions during the inauguration of the show in Florida, specifically at Walt Disney. Carrie and all the other winners were given microphone-shaped trophies and were honored for succeeding in the competition.

Last month, (March 2009), Carrie Underwood did a recording of "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue which was used as the 'Goodbye Song' for the 8th season of American Idol. During the first week of April of this year, Carrie also won “Entertainer of the Year” as well as “Female Vocalist of the Year” at the ACM Awards (Academy Music Awards).
Other Carrie Underwood trivia: Currently, she is dating Mike Fisher, the Ottawa Senators’ center. She is also a supporter of animal rights as well as HSUS (Humane Society of the United States).
