Stranded in this spooky town
Stoplights are swaying and the phone lines are down
This floor is crackling cold, she took my heart, I think she took my soul
With the moon I run far from the carnage of the fiery sun
Driven by the strangle of vein showing no mercy I do it again,
Open up your eye, you keep on crying baby, I’ll bleed you dry
Skies they blink at me, I see a storm bubbling up from the sea
And it's coming closer
And it's coming closer
You shimmy shook my bone leaving me stranded all in love on my own
Do you think of me? Where am I now? Baby where do I sleep?
Feel so good but I'm old, 2000 years of chasing's taking its toll
And it’s coming closer
And it’s coming closer
And it’s coming closer
And it’s coming closer

3rd verse-He has completely gotten over the love that broke his heart, but he admires the path that she lead him down. He feels that he was broken hearted alone, but wonders if she has thought of him the same way he thought about her throughout this "enlightening" period of his life. He feels so good that he's reached a higher, more confident, and more profound way of thinking and living, but the climb to reach that point was a long journey. This is the context I prefer to put this song into when I listen to it, and I thought I would share it to maybe help enlighten and inspire the people who don't want to believe it's about a vampire

"Stranded in this spooky town, stoplights are swaying and the phone lines are down"-- Heartbreak. He's had a sense of love and passion inside of him for some time, and it has been ripped out. He is now in a new and unwelcoming state of mind. "This floor is crackling cold, she took my heart, I think she took my soul"-- No sign of well-being, he's feeling the heartbreak but also is realizing that she was what his life was purposed for, and now he is without her and without purpose. "With the moon I run, far from the carnage of the fiery sun"-- At night, he is alone with his thoughts, but in a weird way, at peace and comfortable with it. During the day, his lonely and empty feeling inside keeps causing more damage to his everyday life. 2nd verse- He's on his way to recovery, however this time around he won't be setting himself up for heartbreak again. He has a thicker skin now and has less mercy for hurting others, realizing that sometimes good people will get hurt even by other good people with the best intentions. He wants to live happily and as adventurous as he feels and yearns for, so he is prepared to break some hearts along the way. The last line reflects the girls who start falling for him seeing something special, but he knows they are not the one he's going to sell his heart to. "And it's coming closer"- he's going to find his passion again, but he's making sure it's true and pure. He's willing to wait as long as it takes, but he can feel it getting closer.

Yes, yes, YES! I love this track like any KOL one! But it's nothing to do with Twilight! Yes, it's about a vampire, but that's how he's personifying himself! He's tired and feels ancient due to the experiences he's been through, and it's got no relation to Twilight OR True Blood! (I love both, by the way) Just cos it's got a mention of a vampire, doesn't mean it's got anything to do with Twilight! Calm down fanatics! And no relation to 30 days of night, for that matter! Leave i be the awesome, wicked song it is!

I read in a Kings of Leon Fan Magazine that Caleb got obsessed with murder mystery shows, and that that is what it's based on. A direct quote from it is "you can see there's this brutal murder that goes on, but when they delve into the back into the life of the people, you see that the psycho really feels as id he loves this woman. So much so that if he can't have her no one can have her, and it ends up becoming some brutal story."

I would just like to add my two cents: My interpretation is not better or worse than anyone else's, but I think the term "chasing" refers to "chasing the dragon" which refers to using heroine. A heroine addict would also probably feel about 2000 years old if they have been usin...well, for any amount of time, whether it's 10 years, 20 years, or 1 week - doesn't matter - it will definitely take it's toll. Also, "driven by the strangle of vein" may be refering to the use of a turnicate to bring the veins closer to the surface of the skin which makes it easier to inject heroine. I'm pretty sure that a lot of the lyrics decribe heroine use and the destruction it leads to.

I came here to find out exactly what the lyrics to this song were...because to me they sound exactly correlated to the series by Charlaine Harris. Ive been reading them & to me this song fits perfectly for Sookie & Eric The Northman, who actually is thousands of years old...and there are many things in the song actually that directly correlate to soem of things happening in the books. Huh. This definitely does not remeind me of Twilight at all. Sookie & Eric all the way!

I agree. Im all for Sookie and Eric. (I love how he says her name, "soooookkkaahhhhhyyy"
) I absolutely am addicted to TrueBlood. Hands down better than Twilight, no comparison, really. I'm trying to track down a set of Charlaine Harris books but having **** of a time. I really believe Caleb wasn't writing this song thinking of some love sick vamp, writing doesn't happen like that. Overwhelming feels usually are the cause, song writing may reflect all sorts of different things, all from one another's points of views. I don't believe this song is going to be played for Edward's moody march onto the screen any time soon. Sorry, Twilight lovers.

If you go to the Kings of Leon website and click on band and then bio it will tell you that Caleb says this song is about a love sick vampire! so maybe the Twilight and New Moon fanatics aren't wrong after all!

May i just say that i sort of agree with puppleups it's very annoying people saying this song is "perfect for new moon" I have read all the books they are good but they are not amazing. I don't understand all the hype around it i have read MANY better books (i am self-confessed bookworm) and watched better films. They are many other books and films that the this song can relate to. I would asolutely hate if song was used in any of the twlight movies. This is my favourite song of all time and the band is amazing! Simple!
