She got the call today
One out of the gray
And when the smoke cleared
It took her breath away
She said she didn't believe
It could happen to me
I guess, we're all one phone call
From our knees
We're gonna get there soon
If every building falls
And all the stars fade
We'll still be singing this song
The one they can't take away
I'm gonna get there soon
She's gonna be there too
Crying in her room
Praying, Lord, come through
We're gonna get there soon
Oh, it's your light
Oh, it's your way
Pull me out of the dark
Just to show me the way
Crying out now
From so far away
You pull me closer to love
Closer to love
Meet me once again
Down off Lake Michigan
Where we could feel the storm blowing
Down with the wind
And don't apologize
For all the tears you've cried
You've been way too strong
Now for all your life
I'm gonna get there soon
You're gonna be there too
Crying in your room
Praying Lord come through
We're gonna get there soon
Oh, it's your light
Oh, it's your way
Pull me out of the dark
Just to show me the way
Crying out now
From so far away
You pull me closer to love
Closer to love
'Cause you are all that I've waited for
All of my life
We're gonna get there
You are all that I've waited for
All of my life
You pull me closer to love
Closer to love
Pull me closer to love
You pull me closer to love
Closer to love, oh no
Closer to love, closer to love
Pull me closer to love

Oh, and "It'll all come through", not "Lord come through"

I think he's saying "Just to shoulder the weight", not Just to show me the way. : )

I heard this song on the way to the hospital to see Betty and it really touched me then and still does.

Mat is a Christian as far as I know. He started his career writing songs and publishing under a Christian label. Based upon this point, I think that the reference to "Down off Lake Michigan" is either someone helping someone else through a difficult time in their life by talking with them (maybe "down off Lake Michigan"). It could also be a place where Mat or someone he knows goes to pray and therefore he is talking about his relationship/prayer time with Christ as his friend and that he is pryaing down off Lake Michigan. "Oh, it's Your light, oh, it's Your way, pull me out of the dark, just to show me the way" is in reference to Christ as well. He is directly referring to Christ in this verse and is saying that Christ is love, wants the best for us and wants to pull us out of the dark into His light and show us the way to live. This is my take on the lyrics anyhow. If you listen to Mat's songs with his relationship to Christ in mind, they are some very powerful lyrics. My wife and I are going to the Vogue in Indianapolis on Thursday to see him perform! I am so excited! Peace!

Guys, I need some help with this song. I agree the song is beautiful The hard part for me is the interpretation. What does "meet me once again down off of Lake Michigan ...." mean? Does this refer to an illicit love affair of some sort? Any guesses? If anyone would care to explain/interpret I would sure listen. Thanking you in advance for your help, blkbrd
