So the Devil Kid reached for his gun,

But he lost the game to a shot that came,
From somewhere out of sight.
And as the Kid went down and he hit the ground,
He thought he’d lost his mind.
He heard Greybeard snicker, “I was even quicker,
Before I went stone blind.”

Kenny Rogers puts his acting s****s to work in this story song as he really gets into the character of all parts, the narrator, the Devil Kid and Greybeard. I especially like that little twist at the end there.

Anyone know the missing word? It sounds like "Cookin' was his virtue", but that makes no sense whatsoever in the context of the song. We're talkin' a sheriff and an outlaw. Neither one (as far as I know) is Chef Gordon. LOL!

Aggh! The overactive censoring got me! Same four letters as "****ed at his game." in the lyrics "acting s****s".
