Linkin Park Hands Held High Lyrics
Songwriters: Bennington, Chester; Farrell, Dave; Shinoda, Mike; Delson, Brad; Hahn, Joseph; Bourdon, Robert;
Turn my mic up louder, I got to say somethin'
Lightweight step it aside when we comin'
Feel it in your chest, the syllables get pumpin'
People on the street, they panic and start runnin'

Words on loose leaf sheet complete comin'
I jump on my mind, I summon the rhyme I'm dumpin'
Healin' the blind, I promise to let the sun in
Sick of the dark ways, we march to the drummin'

Jump when they tell us they want to see jumpin'
F*** that! I want to see some fists pumpin'
Risk somethin', take back what's yours
Say somethin' that you know they might attack you for

'Cause I'm sick of bein' treated like I have before
Like I'm stupid standin' for what I'm standin' for
Like this war's really just a different brand of war
Like it doesn't cater to rich and abandon poor

Like they understand you in the back of the jet
When you can't put gas in your tank
These ******* are laughin' their way to the bank and cashin' the check
Askin' you to have compassion and have some respect

For a leader so nervous in an obvious way
Stutterin' and mumblin' for nightly news to replay
And the rest of the world watchin' at the end of the day
In their livin' room laughin' like, "What did he say?"

Amen, amen
Amen, amen
Amen

In my livin' room watchin' but I am not laughin'
'Cause when it gets tense, I know what might happen
The world is cold, the bold men take action
Have to react to get blown into fractions

10 years old is somethin' to see
Another kid my age drugged under a jeep
Taken and bound and found later under a tree
I wonder if he had thought, "The next one could be me"

Do you see the soldiers that are out today
That brush the dust from bulletproof vests away?
It's ironic, at times like this you pray
But a bomb blew the mosque up yesterday

There's bombs in the buses, bikes, roads
Inside your market, your shops, your clothes
My dad, he's got a lot of fear I know
But enough pride inside not to let that show

My brother had a book he would hold with pride
A little red cover with a broken spine
On the back he hand wrote a quote inside
"When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die"

Meanwhile, the leader just talks away
Stutterin and mumblin' for nightly news to replay
And the rest of the world watchin' at the end of the day
Both scared and angry like, "What did he say?"

Amen, amen
Amen, amen

(Amen)
With hands held high into a sky so blue
(Amen)
As the ocean opens up to swallow you
(Amen)
With hands held high into a sky so blue
(Amen)
As the ocean opens up to swallow you

(Amen)
With hands held high into a sky so blue
(Amen)
As the ocean opens up to swallow you
(Amen)
With hands held high into a sky so blue
(Amen)
As the ocean opens up to swallow you

(Amen)
With hands held high into a sky so blue
(Amen)
As the ocean opens up to swallow you
(Amen)
With hands held high into a sky so blue
(Amen)
As the ocean opens up to swallow you

first of all, i support our soldiers in Iraq, not so much the war because we it seems we are just over there for the oil now, but it seems for some of you, ya'll have forgotten the reason we initially went over there, 9/11 when thousands of people were MURDERED in a terrorist attack. Yes they actually are kind of fighting for our freedom, you would think that too if you had friends/family die in a terrorist attack on american soil. Yes, the soldiers chose to be over there, and they are helping stop future terrorist attacks on our soil, whether you choose to believe that or not. And, no matter how much you want to believe it, obviously we are by no means all equal, might as well stop telling yourself that now. You're right, its not right to just take any beings life, you tried telling that to the terrorists over there? I highly doubt it, because if you did they would blow your brains out and then laugh at your statement.

Keep in mind, he never says that he could do better. Don't put words in his mouth, he obviously knows the right words to describe how he feels. I'm sure if he thought he could that he would put that in there. He's not scared to say something that you might not agree with. This is part of his solution, speaking out, getting the message out. Trying to get people to listen and open up their eyes and minds.
To everyone saying to stand up for the soldiers, keep in mind, they choose to be over there. It was their own choice. I don't have to support them. They're not fighting for my freedom right now, and I didn't ask them to do it. If there was a draft, I would completely support them, and be behind them, because it was against their will. But no, I will not support people who think that it is alright to take another being's life and choose to go out there.
It is NEVER necessary to feel that we have the right to take another human being's life away, just because they are different. That is just ignorance, and hypocritical. You are no more right than they are. WE ARE ALL EQUAL! You say that you stand for America, and proud, but why don't you be an American and stand for what we stand for. FREEDOM! For everyone. No matter of religion, race, sex, sexual orientation, or their opinions. Everyone. Just because they're not in America, doesn't give us the right to kill them because we think that they are wrong, just because they're different from us. We think murdering and torture is inhuman and unmoral. How are you any better?

I live in Bali, that’s why my English is so terrible and I truly am sorry for that. One year after wtc being crashed, so was Kuta, if you still remember. I woke up at 5 am and all the TV stations were filled with news about that destroyed and decimated place. My dad phoned all of our family who live there, make sure that they’re alright and yes, they’re still alive, but after that? Half of them were working for tourism and soon they’re retired. My neighbor is Moslem and since then, they didn’t talk to us anymore. Heterogenic living in Bali which has been wobbly became more wobbly. We’re like saving some prejudice and hidden anger with another different, and okay, they may say that Moslem are peaceful, that those terrorist are not the reason for us to blaming another sinless Moslem and whatever, but that’s not the point. The point is, we’re afraid. We’re afraid of them even if we don’t directly suffering. And what do you think could be happen to somebody like Bush, who stands right at this whole problem? Maybe he’s not afraid, but actually, none of us all have right to judge him about what he should and shouldn’t do bcuz none of us have ever been in his position. After all, I’ll stand behind everyone who fights terrorism. Yes, even if it means war and more war. I love peace and will never ever justify war but (in this I totally agree with firehailblack) that’s reality. Bush is a greedy and stupid and cheesy and cold blooded world leaders and he is still a human, not god. Whatever he is doing now is the best he can do at the time and the rule. And about your last sentence, come on, I know he’s a human being and well as the soldier but there’s a huge different between his death and soldier’s death. And I won’t explain it much more, you totally already know about that.

Of course I didn’t see that one right in front of my very own eyes, lol363, or else I wouldn’t be able to write these. We all do not see everything that we comment at right in front of our eyes, right? That why we just comment. Do everything we can do, even if it just talking, because not everybody can talk. Yet talking will never be as good as doing.

MUSIC ISN'T LITERAL.
It STILL PISSES PEOPLE OFF.
THis song is great and it's aspects are weird at sometimes because you all say about his negativity towards war when in the first verse he's promoting it in a way : "F--- that I wanna see some fists pumping." He has this song towards no one but making examples. Over all, this rap was a good song of Linkin Park.

Male Feb 12, 2008 at 01:52 PM by firehailblack

Semper Fi Mac. People like me do what we're told because its what we do. I'm not saying war itself is right or even ethical. I'm saying its a reality. I heard a quote once that really struck a chord in me. "You don't ask whey a plague spreads, or why a fire burns. Don't ask why I fight."

To all soldiers that die fighting for the right and to all innocent who die in the midst of the war, your sacrifice would not be wasted as people would hesitate whether its right to wage this war. Your death may bring enlightenment to the next generation before another war is waged. Hopely the soldiers know the true purpose of fighting, not fighting blindly because they are told to do so.

Male Jan 31, 2008 at 07:11 PM by cretin.

War has been an aspect of human life for centuries. Its a part of humanity, just like greed and hatred. From WW1 to the recent iraqi war, it is the greed of human which ignited these wars.I doubt it would be the last war to be recorded history, its human nature to fight, to conquer, to satisfy their greed and show their superiority. To all peace lovers, live with it unless u are able to change humanity. Its only when all human are able to truely understand the meaning of living in peace and harmony, then peace would arrive

Male Jan 19, 2008 at 03:30 PM by american soldier 88

why dont you liberals just leave? seriously it would do everyone better, this country would be way better without you.gay marriage wouldnt exist,we wouldnt have soldiers struggling with the war in iraq as well as the war we are having at home with ourselves.open your eyes, war will happen forever, you cant change that, either hop on board with us or leave.my buddies back in iraq told me once that the people back here in the u.s who dont support them are no different then the cold blooded terrorists who light up bombs every day

FIRSTLY.

i'd like to take a moment to say, thank you to Linkin Park for writing such an amazing song. Because it has finally made people see that they're doing things wrong. Although, there are Americans in here moaning about it like. "omg, war sucks" but tbh, its your fault. you start them. you supply weapons for them. so don't moan. do something about it.

Tools.

Female Jan 12, 2008 at 07:35 PM by Lol363

And iThinkI'mnotAlive, though I respect your opinion, I have to say that I disagree with you. You said "even if you are killing and killed, u r better that that people who speaking only". Well, guess who is doing that right now in front of your very eyes. Who is making speeches in the safety of his thousands of bodyguards in America while he sends more and more soldiers to Iraq?

Female Jan 12, 2008 at 07:25 PM by Lol363 Female Stars

I just love this song. It is emotional, it is intelligent, and it is so powerful.

If you want to be a true patriot, you have to be prepared to face all the flaws of your country. You cannot simply just turn a blind eye and say "America's perfect. America's great. The Government is great. Period." You aren't a patriot. You are a coward.

Please just tell me, what good is the war that we are having right now? I can understand when troops are needed, when sometimes there doesn't seem to be any choice but for war. But what are we doing right now? We have never captured Bin Ladin, we have only created more terrorists, and we are killing and bombing innocent civilians. That is just the truth.

Female Jan 07, 2008 at 04:50 AM by iThinkI'mnotAlive

whoa....never seen something like this in another song lyrics...this song is great, but how wonderful what people can think bout that...ok, you all have used your freedom of speech evectively, but the most thing you do on here is blaming. its seems like you would do it much better if you are in Bush position or whoever, but actually you're not, okey? nobody likes war, but everybody has a reason to do something they don't like.salut to the soldiers who fight in the battle fields. even if you are killing and killed, u r better that that people who speaking only

hatingu.. what exactly is wrong with an intelligent debate. i respect everyone opinions in here. its true that war sucks. its true that bush is a liar. its true that not all iraqis are terrorists. but unfortunately they all happened. our boys both british and american are in iraq. i'm sure they dont want to be there any more then the natives. but they are so support them they only follow orders.and lemonpip i just read your message about it being all america's fault BUSH LIED i mean jesus he said god talked to him, look in any psyche 101 book its called schizophrenia, people. stop b1tching about whos fault it is and just support the troops that are only doing what they are told. congrats you guys keep doing your best!

Wow,everybody wrote really long reviews. Can't say the same here thought.Listen people, you're doing something stupid your fighting a battle that isn't even yours!Your not the goverment you can't make the decisions through a computer system chat!So stop argueing among your selfs! The point was to exclaim your thoughts on the song. Not bring up a war debate! Great now even I'm doing it! Lovely. Anyways before I really do get sucked in to a mini computer war beetween people I want to say that song ROCKS!!! Lp kicks all sss!!

Male Dec 23, 2007 at 08:55 PM by gmo777

I've read many comments from soldiers, like:"i take my orders and i have to do em even if it means killin a person that is totally innocent out there" MEN thats f5ck2d up. It is impossible to justify war, but u can justify the existance of military forces, I'm pro militar, but as a defensive use only, wanna stop terrror then stop it on your soil, and don't start with that bullsh3t about protecting the rest of the world cuz we can protect ourselfs.
Another question, What the hell r u doing there? killing a 15 years old kid means saving 10 american lifes? thats bullsh3t. You r just destroying a country when u should be eliminating terrorist heads. They already have enough violence with their civil war, taking part for 1 side only makes it worse. If u wanna help then look for peace between them not more war.
I admire the decsicion to join the army, but if I were asked to do war instead of stoping it, i would quit and keep my honor.U r the devil's weapons. If every dead iraqui had been a terrorist, then u would have already won the war but u know they r just people.
If Iraqui soldiers well equiped coud invade the US u would also grab a weapon and defend urself, so they have the right to kill u for defending ur country? then why is it YOUR right to do so with them?

Male Dec 22, 2007 at 09:51 AM by colorado13

this song is testifying about the negative aspect of war. it's not jusifying anything and all it is saying about Bush is that he is a liar,a retard and he is abusing the power that has been given to him. I dont understand how people can be so ignorant to think that the Iraq war is neccessary. I think that any number of lives lost, greater than 0, over something like oil, is rediculous. I think if we all were to look at the FACTS about American involvement in the Middle East, everyone would get a nice little surprise and realize that sometimes loyalty to your country and leader should be set aside when the well being of international unity and cooperation is at stake. The United States can only survive so long if we continue to support the outlook of American supremacy. if we continue to isolate ourselves one can only imagine where we will be in the next 10-15 years...

Male Dec 18, 2007 at 10:15 PM by AceFighter10 Male Stars

Song's great and i agree with everyone but i think the song's meaning is more like stopping the war instead of support the killings american and iraqis

Female Dec 17, 2007 at 03:33 PM by LinkinParkRulez Female Stars

I really respect the Iraq troops and this song makes me sorta angry at people. At Bush. And I'm not even American. And I have never been in iraq. There is totally no fairness in this war. Someone play this song to Bush. Those who have heard this song, they understand. The lyrics have so much truth in them. It's really too bad that the whole world can't just stop and listen to this song. I've seen many pictures of war and also movies, videos. I understand the importance of this all, and I'm sure this song should encourge the troops in Iraq. I'm glad that LP made this song. And I'm also happy tha most of you commented to such a depth. That means I'm not alone with my opinions.
Bush, you'd better stay away. Unless you want to hear what we all think of you. It would involve lots of swear words...
