On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway, I heard the mission bell
Then I was thinking to myself this could be Heaven or this could be Hell
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor I thought I heard them say
"Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
(Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year
(Any time of year)
You can find it here"
Her mind is Tiffany twisted, she got the Mercedes Bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the captain, "Please bring me my wine"
He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since 1969"
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night just to hear them say
"Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
(Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They're living it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise
(What a nice surprise)
Bring your alibis"
Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice
And she said, "We are all just prisoners here of our own device"
And in the master's chambers they gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast

The lyrics describe the title establishment as a luxury resort where "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave." On the surface, the song tells the tale of a weary traveler who becomes trapped in a nightmarish hotel that at first appeared tempting. There are many urban legends about the meaning of this metaphor. The song is generally about the hedonism and self-destruction in the Southern California music industry hence, Hollywood is likened to a luxury hotel which is initially welcoming and offers to fulfill most wishes, but results in trapping its residents through their own self-destructive desires ("we are all just prisoners here of our own device").
go 2 google and type in hotel california then go 2 the wikipedia one for more info about this song
just my favourite song. Has been a metaphor about drugs but only a few people have found its true outstanding! simply perfect, one of best songs in history!
This song is about losing touch with reality. Anyone who lives in socal knows about fake materialistic bs and how it consumes people to the extent that they lose touch with themselves. The spirit of individuality, free love, free thought, is lost to to a superficial consumerist culture where all that seems to matter is driving the best mercedes, having the most money, wearing expensive jewelry. People who come here come for the beauty of the land, the warm sunshine, they think they will find everything they want here and have the perfect life. They will get the mercedes, wear the tiffany, but what does it all mean. It is all an illusion. When you have everything, what else is there to hope for. You have sold out and become just like everyone else. Never stop enjoying the warm sunshine, the beauty in nature, don't lose touch with what truly matters. That is what this song is about.
Love the eagles, Love the song.
They say that the song is about "indulgence", which is probably talking about drugs, but some of the best songs have been created either induced by drugs or about them...
i think this song talks about drugs, at the begining said that her sight grew dim and all this stuff, and that he cant never leave, so i think this is about drugs!
Hes seen things, a voice calling him...
talks about death..
'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell'
'There's plenty of room at the Hotel California'
'Any time of year' (any time of year)
'You can find it here'
'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave'
he died...he regrets for some things which didn t deserved in real life...he wants to return home..but it s too late...now..HE CAN T LEAVE..
How can you rock to this song? It has such a strange way about it. I wonder where he really was? My mom said the song was about drugs, but I think it's about some guy dying and going to hell where now he has no way out, and has to face the consequences. Maybe it's a dream.
It's one of my favourite songs
yeah,a person losing his innerself, true identity coz of material deceptions...
I totally love this song. I agree with some of the people here on how it is about dying.
