Houdini Lyrics

Foster The People

Rise above, gonna start the war! Oh, what you want, what you need What'd you come here for? Well, an eye for an eye and an 'f' for fight Taking me down as the prisoners riot
Yeah yeah
Got shackles on, my words are tied Fear can make you compromise Lights turned up, it's hard to hide Sometimes I want to disappear
When I feel kinda bad and don't want stress Just pass it off on ability Well you got what you want, what you never knew Perfect gift from me to you
Yeah yeah yeah
Got shackles on, my words are tied Fear can make you compromise With the lights turned up, it's hard to hide Sometimes I want to disappear
(Raise up to your ability) You never knew that I could find [ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/houdini-lyrics-foster-the-people.html ] What could come when we realize Some won't stop with the compromise
(Raise up to your ability) Yeah I'm scared but I'll disappear Running around cause I'm filled with fear I can't do it cause my life's a wreck
(Raise up to your ability) I know that you wanna Throw me into the Sea For my ability
(Raise up to your ability) Yeah I'm undecided Yeah just want to leave it I don't wanna walk away (Raise up to your ability)
You gotta focus on your ability Focus on your ability Now focus on your ability Focus on your ability Gain again what they want to steal Gain again what they want to steal Then gain again what they want to steal Gain again what they want to steal

Tell Us What These Lyrics Mean To You...

Muhammad Ali -
I think it shows the sad fact of how the world will or may forcefully harvest your special abilities for profit and you are forced - for yourself - to 'Gain again what they want to steal '. It an endless cycle.
Frank Stein -
jf123, They've mentioned a few times in interviews what this song is about, if you care to seek. It's a little deeper than a bunch of people whining about other people's success. Ali is on the right track, but note that the band isn't whining with their hands out in this tune, they are advocating overcoming and succeeding. It is a positive message, unlike the OWS's sedentary whinefest. If all one takes is "Gain again what they want to steal" out of the song, and then interprets that as becoming essentially idle nuisances, squatting in and trashing our beautiful places, then, as guest123 has mentioned, "It's sad, really". Those types missed, "The perfect gift from FTP to you".

It's saying the music industry is taking over musiciens and using them like puppets.

This song is this song; occupy a life.

shineOnBlueMoon

To me, this will always be an anthem to Occupy Wall Street.

guest123

You've totally missed the message, then.

It's sad, really.

Okay if that's what the person gets from the song, you don't need to insult them for it. If that's the way they interpret it, then that's just the way it is.

jf123

What is he message? I'm curious

korochuun

Mia
