I don't wanna be your friend
I just wanna be your lover
No matter how it ends
No matter how it starts
Forget about your house of cards
And I'll do mine
Forget about your house of cards
And I'll do mine
And fall off the table, get swept under
Denial, denial
The infrastructure will collapse
Voltage spikes
Throw your keys in the bowl
Kiss your husband goodnight
Forget about your house of cards
And I'll do mine
Forget about your house of cards
And I'll do mine
Fall off the table, get swept under
Denial, denial
Denial, denial
Your ears should be burning
Denial, denial
Your ears should be burning

I think it's about letting go of your worries when you get into a relationship of any kind with someone. Don't worry about how it starts, don't worry about how it will end (they all end, the infrastructure will collapse). All those worries that people like to unload on each other- #!@%*# 'em: forget about your house of cards, and I'll do mine.

Maybe you should ask his girlfriend what he means?

I am having an affair with a guy who has a girlfriend and he recently told me he thought of me every time he heard this song. What do you think he maent by that? "He doesn´t want to be my friend, only my lover"?

ryan ross, it might seem that way, but i think its about an idea far more complex than just leaving a loveless romance. In verse two tom writes "throw your keys into a bowl, and kiss your husband goodnight". Which is how swinger parties for married couples go. Whoever's key you fish out of the bowl at the end of the night you go home with. The chorus "denial denial denial" sums it up for me, as I envision two people both married - (in loveless relationships as you said) realizing that their "house of cards" (their dreams of how perfect married life, having a home, and kids would be) are prepared to forget about what they wanted for a night, and use each other to feel good about themselves. This ties into the theme of the album, where in "all I need" tom says "don't get any big ideas, they're not gonna happen." Sidenote: It amazes me that Radiohead lyrics cannot just be read to be appreciated, but the entire meaning of them comes from yorkes voice and the eery music that accompanies them

I have a download of a live show from San Diego in 2006 where they played some songs from In Rainbows. I am positive he is saying "I'll deal mine."
