Human Lyrics

The Killers

I did my best to notice When the call came down the line Up to the platform of surrender I was brought, but I was kind
And sometimes I get nervous When I see an open door Close your eyes, clear your heart Cut the cord
Are we human or are we dancer? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees looking for the answer Are we human or are we dancer?
Pay my respects to grace and virtue Send my condolences to good Give my regards to soul and romance They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion You taught me everything I know Wave goodbye, wish me well You've gotta let me go
Are we human or are we dancer? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees looking for the answer Are we human or are we dancer?
Will your system be alright When you dream of home tonight? There is no message we're receiving Let me know, is your heart still beating?
Are we human or are we dancer? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees looking for the answer
You've gotta let me know Are we human or are we dancer? My sign is vital, my hands are cold And I'm on my knees looking for the answer Are we human or are we dancer?
Are we human or are we dancer? Are we human or are we dancer?

Freedom! Close your eyes, clear your heart. Being a dancer ( Or being a dancer as a species as opposed to being a species of human) means freedom. Dancers have the freedom to express themselves through movement according to the beat of a specific song or beat where humans are forced to act a certain way so if we "cut the cord" at "the platform of surrender" then we are free. Being a dancer is being free, by disregarding "soul and romance" & "grace and virtue" we are ultimately free to express ourselves in a way that only a dancer can do. So when you listen this song, ask yourself, are you a human, thus bound by certain constrictions or are you a dancer, completely free to express yourself without fear?

"It's taken from a quote by [author Hunter S.] Thompson. ... 'We're raising a generation of dancers,' and I took it and ran. I guess it bothers people that it's not grammatically correct, but I think I'm allowed to do whatever I want," he laughed. " 'Denser'? I hadn't heard that one. I don't like 'denser.' " - Brian Flowers admitting it is "dancer" and he made a grammatical error.

Are we human? Or are we Dancer? (or perhaps Prancer and Vixen)?

PumpkinCellarWine

Geez, it is NOT 'denser'. Do a quick search and you will find the band pointing out that yes the lyric is "dancer". Also it was admitted that it wasn't plural because it was a grammatical error. So you can imagine it's as deep as you like, in the end it's a mistake you'd wouldn't even expect from a high school student.

The words are wrong. It's not dancers. It's either "dancer" like it's a species or "denser" (which would make more sense). Dancer wouldn't be plural because human isn't plural. Either way, denser vs. dancer is debatable.

I think that this song is about a relationship gone bad or the loss ofsomething very important. The first verse is the realization that it's over ( the call coming down the line) the playfor of surrender I was brought but I was kind is him not having a choice in having to give up but not being mad. And getting nervouse seeing an open door is being scared of this new opportunity that has thrust itself into his life. The chorus is as many speculated do we live for our own for our own free will or do we follow a path like a dancer. As far as the second verse goes. Him saying goodbye to all of those qualitties shows he has given up on love and romance for now Indus wake of this experience. Him saying goodbye to devotion and it teaching him everything he knows is about devotion letting him down because he was devoted and got burned then the final verse is about him (maybe sarcastically ) hoping she can live with her decision and the final part. Let me know if your hearts still beating implies she is cold and heartless. Well that's just my interpretation tell me what you think

1st: Someone asked him to surrender. He said no, but was kind. 2nd: He gets nervous when he sees a door ahead, but he walks through anyways. He must 'cut the cord'. (Be free, whatever) 3rd: He will not be graceful, virtuous, or good anymore. You 'pay condolences' when something (one) dies. So 'soul' and romance is dead to him. 4th: Same for devotion. It has to 'let him go'. 5th: More ambiguous verse. He (or you) is looking back. Can't find a connection. Attempts to communicate directly, possibly with himself ('Is your heart still beating?') I find this song to be cynical and dogmatically scientific/existential. Possibly solely referring to (a) romantic relationship/s. It is DEFINITELY dancer.

why are we so defensive it's like this we all have our own perception of music based on the facts of our lives so if you hear dancer it's cause it fits your life better and if someone thinks it say denser it's cause it fit them better you find both word on different sites why get our panties in a bunch.hope you all read this cause you guys need clarity

First off... these Lyrics are incorrect. It is "Dancer" not "Dancers". He's replacing Human with Dancer, instead of saying Humans and Dancers. Second... He definitely says "Dancer", not "Denser". 100% sure on that. Notice, in the second verse, he discusses, "Pay my respects to grace and virtue. Send my condolences to good... (and so on in Verse 2)" What he is saying is, "Good bye, and thanks anyways Love... But my true p****ion is Music and all ****ociated with it (main thing being dancing)" And the question "Are we Human, or are we Dancer" refers to, are we what we call "Human", or are we "Dancer", because it seems like the one thing on this world that EVERY "Human" on Earth has in common is love for music and dancing. It is the Universal Language and Action of all races, communities and beliefs.

I'm not one to contradict, but I'm listening to the song RIGHT NOW, and if you listen carefully, it's denser. And think about it: the question "Are we human, or are we denser?" makes more sense. In a sense, the song is saying, "Are we human, or something more?" AND comparing humans and dancers really doesn't make much sense. Plus, there's no "s" in that word, so saying "Are we dancer?" doesn't make much sense. And logically speaking it's like comparing felines and lions. One is a specific of the other. Dancers are humans whose p****ion is dancing. Before arguing like a bigot, think about what the artist is trying to say. Just please, think about what you say so you don't put your foot in your mouth. And also, just because everyone says it, doesn't mean it's true.

MrThelma

You're right about there being no "s", but it is dancer. Brandon said himself that he was trying to ask the question, "Are we human(do we think for ourselves) or are we dancer(do we always follow a routine,in a group, without thinking for ourselves)?" In an interview he said a quote from a book inspired it. Also, you're the one coming off as a bigot, to be honest.

KazeRendu

Stupid forum. The word bleeped out is pas sion. Yes, I realize there's a space, but i don't want it bleeped out AGAIN
