Kajagoogoo Islands Lyrics
Songwriters: N/A
(VERSE 1)
(Off shore) Either sink or swim
(I saw) What kind of boat I’m in
(Much more) Although I can’t forget you
The light is growing dim

(BRIDGE 1)
Feet are falling on foreign ground
Luck in short supply
I feel like Crusoe before him found
All gone pass me by
I walk on beach, I sleep on sand
I walk in water, salty sea got a hold on me
Daylight come, be it now or never

(CHORUS 1)
Lost on some horizon
No man is an island
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)

(VERSE 2)
(Jackdaw) He don’t bother me
(Wild boar) He keep me company
(Panther) My only consolation
In my calamity

(BRIDGE 2)
Lady Luck or Lady Death
Must pass this shore some day
I hope she’s coming, I ain’t seen her yet
Come to take my soul away
Light my fire on the top of hill
So all the ships can see that I’m a prisoner here
And come before I disappear

(CHORUS 2)
Lost on some horizon
No man is an island
Banished here to prolong my silence
No man is an island
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)

(INSTRUMENTAL MIDDLE BREAK)

(CODA)
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)
(No man is an island)

The title-track to the ISLANDS album of 1984 is one of the best achievement by Kajagoogoo post Limahl ever. Carefully follow the lyrics: you don't happen to find such semantics quite often (wild boar, jackdaw... I don't think that many people even know what these words actually mean… they’re animals, by the way - myself, and I am a Germanic philology graduate, I had to make quite an effort to remember what a jackdaw was...) and the music is so suggestive, peaking at the 'No man is an island' point, which is maybe the worst line... and it sounds so good at the same time, for against all the rest its for-granted dimension ceases to exist. Well, maybe such an awkward (in the good sense) syntax has left its mark on these lines of mine. 5 stars and a half plus! Even 6 this time, whatever you may think...
