Jay-Z and Will Smith to pump millions into Broadway show

Jay-Z and Will Smith are set to pump a combined $3million into a musical about Nigerian musician and political activist, Fela Kuti.

The rapper and the Hollywood star believe the Broadway show - called Fela! - will be a smash hit.

The Bill T. Jones production proved popular and won critical acclaim when it appeared off-Broadway last year.

New York Post theatre critic Michael Riedel wrote: "An aggressive Fela! blitz featuring Smith and Jay-Z - with perhaps an assist from [wife] Beyoncé, who also adores the show - should give the box office a kick. The musical needs all the exposure Jay-Z and Will-S can generate."

Kuti died in 1997 at the age of 58.

Jay-Z's feud with Oasis star Noel Gallagher could get a lot worse as the rapper has revealed he wants to work with Noel's estranged brother Liam.

The 39-year-old rapper fell out with the Oasis guitarist last year when Jay-Z headlined Glastonbury Festival and Noel questioned his addition to the line-up.

Jay-Z sang one of the band's tracks, Wonderwall, at the festival.

Noel has since left Oasis and Jay-Z has revealed his intentions to work with Liam.

He said: "I hear Snoop Dogg might be teaming up with Noel. If that's the case, then I would love to work with Liam. Their music is tight and I think we could blend our styles well.

Rapper Jay-Z is to play the only major venue in London that he hasn't performed at with a show at Alexandra Palace.

The 39-year-old rapper will be playing a gig at the venue in north London on November 4, and it is expected to be an instant sell-out when the 9,000 standing tickets go on sale.

Promoters said that they are expecting "surprise guests" when he comes to town.

Tickets for his gig at the Roundhouse reportedly sold out in 20 seconds.

A spokesman for promoters Live Nation said: "If you missed out on a ticket for the Roundhouse, you better be quick in getting one of these when they go on sale on Friday."

Jay-Z has opened up about his dad walking out on him as an 11-year-old in an emotional new interview.

The music mogul went back to Marcy Projects - the poor Brooklyn neighbourhood he grew up in - as he talked about his childhood, his success in the business world and his relationship with wife Beyonce.

Jay-Z, born Shawn Corey Carter, told Oprah Winfrey his father's desertion left a deep mark on his life.

Rapper Jay-Z has revealed he would like to work with Irish band U2's frontman Bono.

The 39-year-old rapper, who is promoting his new album The Blueprint 3, said that the Irish singer is on his wish list of performers to work with.

Talking about the singer, he said: "Bono would be a great person to work with. I think he's cool."

He added to website MusicOMH.com: "He does so many things. He's had longevity, he's made classic albums, he's still relevant right now and he does so much for the world. He's a complete human being."

Jay-Z has worked with a number of stars on his new album including Rihanna and Kanye West on the single Run This Town.

Jay-Z went “ballistic” after rapper Lil Mama jumped on stage as he performed at an awards show, sources say.

The hip-hop star closed last week's MTV Video Music Awards by doing a duet with Alicia Keys.

But he was interrupted when the female performer managed to clamber on to the stage next to them.

And while he kept his cool as the cameras rolled, he was less than happy when he finished.

A source said: "He went ballistic. He was screaming at the MTV producers about the lack of security. He apparently thought at first she was just a fan.”

Rapper Jay-Z has said Kanye West's outburst at the VMAs is down to him being a "passionate" person.

Kanye, 32, caused controversy at the recent MTV Video Music Awards when he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video and said that fellow nominee Beyonce has "one of the best videos of all time".

Jay-Z said: "He's like my little brother. I mean I pretty much introduced him."

The 39-year-old rapper revealed his thoughts on the incident and said: "First it was rude, because it was her moment."

Rapper Jay-Z has revealed that he and wife Beyonce like to eat pizza every Sunday.

The 39-year-old star, who recently hit number one in the UK with single Run This Town, said he likes to keep his relationship alive by 'dating' each week.

Jay-Z and Beyonce, 27, married in a private ceremony in New York in April last year.

He said: "There's a great pizza spot we go to every Sunday. It's our tradition. It's a small place in Brooklyn - you can bring your own wine and there are candles there. It's a nice date."

Rapper Jay-Z has described protegee Rihanna as a "roller" as he describes her strength following her attack by boyfriend Chris Brown.

The 38-year-old, who is married to singer Beyonce, is the mentor and good pal of the Umbrella star - and he admitted she was soon preparing to return to work when her then-boyfriend assaulted her.

Talking about her strength, he said: "Rihanna is a roller. She goes in hard. She was ready to come back to work from the off.

"We were working together and she just said to me: 'Let me know when you want me to show up for the video.'

"But I looked out for her. We talk to each other and I give her plenty of advice."

US rapper Jay-Z has been a busy man of late. Not content with releasing his new album early, he has also announced a 21-date arena tour.

Jay-Z's new album The Blueprint 3's release date has been pushed forward to today. It was originally due to be released on 11 September.

The husband of singer Beyoncé has also announced that he is set to do a 21-date arena tour, starting in the US on 9 October.

The hip-hop star, 39, will also perform at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) on 13 September, before heading overseas to the UK for five concerts, including two at Wembley Stadium with Coldplay.
