John Mayer Biography

John Clayton Mayer, known more popularly today as John Mayer, is a blues artist born in 1977, specifically on the 16th of October. Mayer was raised in Conneticut where he went to the Berklee College of Music. In 1997, he moved to Georgia where he improved on his music and started gaining fans. The first two albums he introduced to the public were multi-platinum and definitely successful: “Room for Squares” and “Heavier Things”.
John Mayer was born to Margaret Mayer and Richard Mayer, and was the second of the couple’s three kids. He studied in Fairfield High School, and also did some clarinet playing during middle school, but only had minor success. Upon watching Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future, Mayer became interested in guitar playing and also started idolizing Stevie Ray Vaughan, thus, his passion for the blues was born.

When John turned seventeen, he became ill with cardiac arrhythmia which actually brought out the song writer in him. The night he returned home from the hospital, Mayer started writing his first lyrics. Mayer’s solo career started with the aid of Glenn Matullo, a sound engineer and producer who was responsible for John’s recording of “EP Inside Wants Out”, also co-writing some of the songs with Mayer. “Back To You” was the opening track which was one of the crowd favorites.

In year 2000, John Mayer’s reputation started to catch the attention of record companies, specifically Aware Records. Aware was also responsible for making “Room for Squares” available as an internet only album. Then Aware Records had a deal with Columbia Records, which was why in September of 2001, Columbia launched Mayer’s “Room for Squares” and the year after, several of its tracks became worldwide hits like “Your Body is a Wonderland” (gave Mayer the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance from the 2003 Grammy Awards), “No Such Thing”, and “Why Georgia”.
“Heavier Things”, Mayer’s sophomore album was launched in 2003, and though not as successful as his debut album, “Heavier Things” still reached the number one spot on the Billboard 200 Chart in the US. Mayer also won a Grammy award for Song of the Year in 2005 for his song: “Daughters”, with the award dedicated to his grandmother who passed away the year before. Because of Mayer’s fame, he also did some endorsements for brands like Volkswagen and the BlackBerry Curve.

In 2006, Mayer released “Continuum” which had the hit single “Waiting on the World to Change”. “Continuum” also resulted to John being nominated for Album of the Year at the 2007 Grammy Awards. Just last year in February (2008), Mayer hosted a cruise that lasted for three days, which featured performers such as Colbie Caillat, David Ryan Harris, etc.
Just last month (March 2009), a second cruise event was again hosted by John. Mayer is also expected to have his own variety show as confirmed by CBS, but the details are not yet ironed out. In terms of his love life, Mayer just came from a break-up with Jennifer Aniston whom he started dating in April of last year.
