Kanye West Biography

Kanye Omari West , better known as Kanye is an American record producer and rapper from Chicago, Illinois. Born on June 8, 1977, his birthplace is Atlanta, Georgia. Initially he climbed the popularity chart with hit singles he produced for major Hip-Hop/R&B artists, like Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Ludacris.

For quite a long period of time, West himself worked on his solo album, the release of which was put off time and time again. To get his voice on record was a real hurdle for West, owing to his appearance and overall style. Multiple record companies looked at him with diffidence. They saw that West belonged to the suburbs of Chicago; he is not a former 'street hustler', and not even one who wears the conventional hip-hop dress. The companies didn’t give him any serious consideration.

A car accident on October 23, 2002 left him with some serious injuries. His jaw got fractured in three places. Just a few weeks after the mishap and with his mouth still wired shut, he came to record "Through The Wire". "Through The Wire", which was composed on the lines of Chaka Khan's classic track "Through The Fire", gradually became his lead single in his album The College Dropout. In February 2004, The College Dropout was released on Roc-a-Fella Records.

Kanye West’s second album, Late Registration, came out on August 30th, 2005. In its opening week, the album sold over 904,000 copies. The first two singles from Late Registration were "Diamonds” off From Sierra Leone, which contained samples from Shirley Bassey's "Diamonds Are Forever", and "Gold Digger". According to West, Graduation and A Good Ass Job would be his 3rd and 4th albums, respectively.

Kanye has teamed up with a number of artists including rapper Twista, on songs such as "Overnight Celebrity" and "Slow Jamz". The songs have come up #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Talib Kweli, Mariah Carey Dilated Peoples, and John Legend are a few artists he has worked with. He also made his appearance on Brandy's single, "Talk About Our Love". West is also sometimes described as the custodian of conscientiousness. He is known to have influenced life of such rappers as Common and Twista, invigorating their spirit and bringing in fresh life to their career.

In 2004, Kanye made his appearance on Punk'd, MTV version of Candid Camera. Ashton Kutcher (actor) baffled Kanye to believe that the Los Angeles Film Commission had censored his music video shoot for the song "Jesus Walks" for not abiding by the law for filming on Sundays without a permit. To the amusement of the audience, Kanye snatched the music video footage from them and sprang into his van for safety. Later Kutcher stopped the van and told him the truth. A few moths later, the single went out safely without any obstacles from Ashton Kutcher or his team. The single eventually bagged the Grammy Awards.

On 2 July 2005, at an international venue, West alleged that AIDs was a handiwork of US government to annihilate Africans in Africa. He came out with this statement using the global platform at the Live 8 Concert, Philadelphia, when making allusion to "man-made diseases placed in African communities”. He also alleged that the US Government used crack to destroy African-American communities and tamper with their civil rights movement. Highly cynical he was that he criticized politicians for “riding home in Benzs and Bentleys while poor Africans was let to starve".
