Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon are a US-based group that has the passion for alternative rock music. The band is composed of three brothers and one cousin (Matthew): Anthony Caleb Followill (d.o.b. Jan. 14, 1982), Ivan Nathan Followill (d.o.b. June 26, 1979), Cameron Matthew Followill (d.o.b. Sept. 10, 1984), and Michael Jared Followill (d.o.b. Nov. 20, 1986), who use their middle names. Kings of Leon was formed in the year 2000 and had the following musical influences: Tommy James and the Shondells.

Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill were born to parents Betty Ann Followill and Ivan Followill. Their father was a preacher and so the brothers participated in the choir at a young age as instrument players. The trio knew how to play the guitar, the drums, and the bass, even as children. Despite being raised in a religious household, Nathan, Jared, and Caleb still were able to listen to rock music as their father usually played them in the car when they went on trips. The family often listened to songs from Bad Company, the Rolling Stones, etc. In 2002, the brothers signed a deal with the label: RCA Records, and eventually asked their cousin Matthew to become their lead guitarist.

The first EP launched by Kings of Leon was "The Holy Roller Novocaine EP" in 2003. The tracks in the said EP were co-written by Angelo Petraglia. Some of the songs found in the band's first release are: "California Waiting", "Wasted Time", etc. Kings of Leon's debut album was entitled "Youth and Young Manhood", received moderate success outside of the US. Fans even claimed that Kings of Leon inspired "new rock revolution". The band, however, became more prominent when they were included in the tours of famous rock groups like U2 and The Stokes. "Youth and Young Manhood" contained singles like "Red Morning Light", "Molly's Chambers", etc. which were used in many TV commercials, films, and video games.
The band released their sophomore album in 2004 entitled "Aha Shake Heartbreak" in the UK, and in the US the year after (2005). "Aha Shake Heartbreak" added to King of Leon's local and international listeners, with the single: "The Bucket" being part of Britain's Tip 20 Hits; "Taper Jean Girl" was featured in the 2007 film Disturbia as well as in the movie entitled Cloverfield.
In April 2007, Kings of Leon introduced their third album to the public: "Because of the Times" which became a chart-topper in both the Ireland and Russian charts. The band's music in the said album has emerged from 'dirty sounding' to something more 'clean-cut'. In September of 2008, Kings of Leon launched their fourth album called "Only by the Night" which topped the UK Albums Chart and held that position for one whole month. In the US, "Only By Night" held the 5th spot. The said album was given the title of Best-Selling Album of 2008 in Australia and "third biggest selling album" in the UK.

Kings of Leon are expected to perform in the 2009 Lollapalooza as well as in the events: Reading & Leeds 2009, Oxegen 2009, Sasquatch 2009, and T in the Park 2009. Kings of Leon are currently recording track for their 5th album with no announcements yet as to when it will be released.
