    this is what i got from it: in the beginning he's talking about perservering. just because he's dying doesn't mean he's dead, do he'll keep on trying. "waiting til the shine wears off" is like making yourself stronger. yu have to build callouses(something ugly) before you can open the door, or cross the river, or hold a gun.
    i hope this helps and wasn't too confusing. awesome song!

    hey, this is what i got from it: in the beginning of the song, he's talking about perserverance. just because he's dying doesn't mean he's dead, so he'll keep trying.
