Madonna 'wore bullet-proof vest on trip to Brazil slum'

Madonna donned a bullet-proof vest when she visited a slum in Brazil, it has been claimed.


The singer is said to have insisted on wearing the protective clothing on a trip to the Dona Marta favela in Rio de Janiero last week.


The Globo newspaper reported that Madge, 51, got armoured up underneath her leather jacket on the 40-minute visit, where she was accompanied by the state governor, Sergio Cabral.


She has raised $10 million to build a school there - similar to the one she built in Malawi.


A representative for the singer was unavailable for comment.

A young slum dweller has latched on to Madonna during her recent trip to Rio de Janeiro to raise funds for her charities. The boy, Morro Dona Marta, stood out for his bright blonde hair. He was shirtless and sought to speak with Madonna in person and lifted himself up a staircase when the superstar was talking to the Rio provincial governor, Sérgio Cabral. He apparently amused Madonna because she reportedly laughed when he offered his services to her as a tour guide. But in one photo she appeared covering her face and slightly embarrassed. Madonna has raised an astonishing $11million for her Malawi charity.


The superstar, who has fought battles with the tiny African country's courts to adopt two children from orphanage backgrounds in Malawi, has become a boon for what is an AIDS-torn poverty zone.


Madonna, 51, got the $11million in pledges from Brazilian millionaires on a trip to Rio that was mildly mocked as a get-together with the parents of her toy boy, Jesus Luz, 22.


Madonna slammed the rumour that she was meeting Luz's 36-year-old mother and declared her visit was a philanthropic venture involving meetings with key Brazilian power players.

Singer Madonna has said she can't bear to hear some of her tracks such as Like A Virgin and asks for it to be turned off.


The 51-year-old mum admitted she will ask for it to be turned off if she hears some of her old music.


Asked how often she hears her own songs when she's out, she said to UK magazine Look: "Not to toot my own horn, but quite a lot. [Laughs] They're usually songs I'm really sick of though.


"It's usually Like A Virgin and that's the one I don't want to hear! I have to ask them to turn it off."


Madonna is dating 22-year-old model Jesus Luz, but she said she doesn't look at herself in the mirror and see a beautiful woman.

Madonna denied she has gone to Brazil to meet the parents of her boyfriend Jesus Luz.


The singer, 51, who had a raft of philanthropic meetings set up with power players in the country said: "I am going there strictly for fundraising and humanitarian purposes."


Luz, 23, who Madonna has towed around Europe on her Sticky & Sweet Tour, has accompanied her to Rio De Janeiro via private jet.

While reports claims she has gone to meet his parents, the singer is also wasting no time organising top-level meetings with local power players.

Friends of the 51-year-old performer say she is "slightly on edge" ahead of the meeting as Jesus's mum is 15 years younger than she is.

Protesting villagers in Malawi are stalling construction on Madonna's girls' school in a bid for more rent from the megastar, according to a report.


Authorities in Malawi have now threatened to arrest some 140 villagers who are demanding more money for land the government has leased to the singer's charity Raising Malawi.


Madonna has adopted two children from the small Aids-stricken nation and has just returned from a visit with all four of her children to the village to break ground for the school.
