Maroon 5 Biography

Formed in 2000, Maroon 5 is a Grammy Award-winning pop band based at Los Angeles, California. Even their debut album �Songs about Jane� released in June, 2000 fetched several awards. The album met with major chart successes, going Gold, Platinum, and even Triple Platinum across the world, in many countries. They followed it up with acoustic album �1.22.03.Acoustic�, which also reached platinum status. The album comprises unplugged versions of �Songs about Jane�.

Songs about Jane, was a result of the inspiration derived from Levine's tumultuous affair with his ex-girlfriend, Jane. Maroon 5�s first single "Harder to Breathe", second single "This Love", third single, "She Will Be Loved" and fourth single, "Sunday Morning� were all chart toppers in USA, UK, and Australia.

Maroon 5 first began as a 4-member garage/grunge band called Kara's Flowers, when the members were all schoolmates at Brentwood High School in Los Angeles. On September 16, 1995, the band had their first gig at the Whisky A Go-Go. The team had Adam Levine on vocals/guitar, Jesse Carmichael on guitar, Mickey Madden on bass and Ryan Dusick on drums. Adam Levine had a deeper "grunge" voice while he sang during this time.

After signing with Reprise Records, the band released its only album The Fourth World in the middle of 1997. The boys were still at school and three among them were going to graduate. Ryan Dusick was going to finish his sophmore year at UCLA. The opening track was "Soap Disco" and the video shot for this could not make it big on MTV. The album was not a commercial success and in 1999 the band parted with Reprise Records. However more copies of The Fourth World were sold later, after the band members became popular through their �Songs about Jane� release.

After relieving themselves from Reprise Records, the four boys went to study in different colleges in USA. They came across new musical styles and tired to imbibe the essence of Motown, Soul, R&B, Pop, and Gospel. The experience they gained helped them evolve a new style and sound to their future band, Maroon 5. The four original members who formed Kara's Flowers, however, remained connected and once again they started playing together in 2001. Jesse Carmichael turned keyboardist in the team and James Valentine, former Square band member became the guitarist.

After James Valentine became a member of Kara's Flowers in 2001, the band found out the new name �Maroon� for it. It was changed to Maroon 5 a few months later when some name conflicts arose. The band played show case gigs in New York City and Los Angeles. In an interview with VH1, Adam Levine credited the interregnum for giving a new face to the band. In the time span between the record deals, he spent a lot of time in New York, where he was exposed to urban and hip-hop culture, in a never-before manner. This experience helped him develop an entirely new genre of music and a new way of song writing.

Ever since its formation, Maroon 5 has been on consistent programme tours, performing with eminent artists such as John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw, Michelle Branch, Jason Mraz, The Like, Phantom Planet, The Thrills, The Donnas, The Rolling Stones etc. The members of the band include Adam Levine (vocals/guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards), Mickey Madden (bass), Ryan Dusick (drums), and James Valentine (guitar)
