Nelly Biography

Cornell Haynes, Jr., known simply as “Nelly”, is a superstar of pop as well as hip-hop as a result of the success of “Country Grammar” that was released in 2000. Nelly cannot be considered as a one-hit singer as he continued to make chart-toppers e.g. Ride Wit Me and Hot in Herre, making him an MTV favorite, and landing him several nominations in the Grammy awards, including “Album of the Year.”
Nelly utilizes a pop-rap form of music that was inspired by Gateway City (St. Louis, MO), his hometown. His music is a mixture of country and urban styles, making him stand out from other hip hop and pop artists of his time. His debut album entitled “Country Grammar,” had contributions from performers such as Lil Wayne, the Teamsters, Cedric the Entertainer, etc.
Nelly also worked on a group album with the St. Lunatics, called “Free City” in the year 2001 which climbed to the 3rd spot in the charts and gained a place in Billboard’s Hot 100. In the summer of 2002, Nelly’s popularity was at its all time high, due to the fact that his album named: “Nellyville” with “Hot in Herre” as its lead single, rose to the top of every music chart possible. The week his second album was made available, Nelly’s songs garnered the number one spot in a total of ten various Billboard charts. He also released a collection of singles like “Air Force Ones,” “Work It,” etc, which kept him on the charts.
In the year 2004, Nelly had two back to back albums released: “Sweat” and “Suit”, which held the top two places in the music charts. “Flap Your Wings’ and “My Place” led Nelly’s two albums to “Billboard Victory”, accompanied by singles like “Tilt Ya Head Back” with Christina Aguilera, “Na-Na-Na-Na”, “N Dey Say”, and “Over and Over.” Come 2005, “Sweat” and “Suit” were combined into “Sweatsuit,” which had the number one hit song: “Grillz.” The next album Nelly created: “Brass Knuckles,” was released in 2008. From 2005 to 2008, Nelly kept busy with his collaborations with R. Kelly, Ashanti, and many other artists.
Aside from being a popular artist, Nelly is also a business man, with own company called: “Derrty Entertainment,” as well as other ventures wherein he introduced “Pimp Juice” to the public (his very own energy drink) and became a minority owner of the Charlotte Hornets, one of the basketball teams of the NBA.
