5 Artists Who Don't Give A Bleep What You Think Of Them
Need a little confidence boost? The lyrics by these five superstars should make you feel untouchable.
When it comes to pop stars, lots of them like to play by the rules: sit up, act straight, be polite, and give the people what they want. But in a time where it's never been more cool to be yourself as popular culture begins to embrace the "weird", today's biggest names in pop are doing what THEY want -- and not giving a care what you think about them. So there!
So, which trendsetters in pop are serving us a big case of "I don't care" in their lyrics? Here's the top five that stick out the most to us, simply because they march to the beat of their own drum & aren't afraid to say so:
5. Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees
When Neon Trees' Tyler Glenn came out as gay recently, it was a true sign of bravery. The singer started dressing in brighter colors, dyed his hair bleach blond, and got personal in the lyrics off the group's latest record Pop Psychology. He may love you, but he hates your friends -- which takes another form of bravery to admit! He just doesn't give a bleep.
Best bleepin' lyric line: I love you / But I hate your friends / They're all desperate... — "I Love You (But I Hate Your Friends)"
To many, Pitbull may come off as a bit of a clown. His goofy womanizing persona and lyrics to match may make a hater or two snicker at hearing his music, but the International Playboy is definitely aware of how he comes off to the public. And he simply doesn't care! He's making money, seeing the world, and besides recording his own hits, lending his lines to other famous artists in the process. Go Dale!
Best bleepin' lyric line: Just cause you ain't me, don't hate me / As a matter fact you should thank me / Even if you don't, you're welcome, Yankees... — "Don't Stop The Party"
3. Iggy Azalea
Rapper-turned-pop-star Iggy Azalea is ON FIRE this year, thanks to the release of her debut LP The New Classic and its bleep-you hits. Coming to the USA from Australia as a teenager to pursue her music dreams, she likes to rap about staying true to her roots, and forgetting the critics who try and shut her down. She's so fancy -- she already knows.
Best bleepin' lyric line: So get my money on time, if they not money, decline / I just can't worry 'bout no haters, gotta stay on my grind... — "Fancy" ft. Charli XCX
2. Miley Cyrus
Remember the days of Hannah Montana? Miley Cyrus has put that persona to rest with her recent Bangerz release, and its lead single, "We Can't Stop", is basically the definition of ignoring the haters. She just can't stop, won't stop, and doesn't bat an eye at her criticizers. It's her party, she can do what she wants!
Best bleepin' lyric line: Remember only God can judge us / Forget the haters cause somebody loves ya... — "We Can't Stop"
As the self-proclaimed Unapologetic queen, Rihanna started out back in 2006 as a squeaky-clean, fresh-faced Barbadian singer who abode by the rules. As she grew up in the public eye, and her discography started to expand, we're now faced with the modern-day RiRi, who, quite frankly, doesn't give two flying bleeps about what people think of her. Still got her money!
Best bleepin' lyric line: Who cares how you haters feel / And I still got my money / Call J up and close a deal / I still got my money... — "Pour It Up"
