This April 1st, you don't have to worry about getting pranked by these songs, which we're bringin' to you via Spotify as always. This week, the songs that are on top are comin' at ya from a humble UK singer/songwriter, a Twilight soundtrack phenomenon, and a budding Aussie boy band that's sure to get your toes tapping. Get ready for this week's #TrendingTuesday, everybody!
10. Dawin - Just Girly Things
Why it's trending: Seeing as we premiered the lyric video for Brooklyn producer Dawin's very first single today, it's only fair he makes the #TrendingTuesday list. Plus, the single was officially released on iTunes today, so hats off to the up-and-coming EDM star!
Best lyric line: "Live it up / Don't let nobody bring you down..."
9. Trey Songz - SmartPhones
Why it's trending: Technology isn't just taking over our personal lives, it's taking over song titles as well! Trey Songz is back with a new album scheduled to drop in June, and the upcoming record's debut single is all about how smartphones totally screwed over romance. He speaks the truth.
Best lyric line: "Time is not on our side / Cause she's waving goodbye goodbye..."
8. Cloud Nothings - I'm Not Part Of Me
Why it's trending: Lo-fi pop-rockers Cloud Nothings are sure to make 2014 their breakout year with the release of their new album Here and Nowhere Else, and if grungy guitars and wailing vocals aren't your thing, they could potentially change your taste. They may screech a little bit and fuzz out their axes, but they have some of the catchiest pop melodies in music today!
Best lyric line: "But I'm not, I'm not you / You're a part of me, you're a part of me..."
7. Timber Timbre - Hot Dreams
Why it's trending: Canadian neo-folk rockers Timber Timbre are consistently releasing albums that intrigue us but also give us the creeps. Case in point: their newest release Hot Dreams, with the album's title track slowly but surely building up to the chorus where lead singer Taylor Kirk singing about some pretty x-rated dreams.
Best lyric line: "I wanna wake from hot dreams, hot dreams of you..."
6. Neon Trees - I Love You (But I Hate Your Friends)
Why it's trending: With an album dropping later this month, as well as giving us their handwritten lyrics to the record's single "Sleeping With A Friend", Neon Trees are on fire right now! Pop Psychology is gearing up to be the band's best release to date, especially on this tongue-in-cheek track that we can't get enough of.
Best lyric line: "I love you / But I hate your friends / They are desperate / If you knew what I know would you be ready to go?"
5. Band Of Skulls - Asleep At The Wheel
Why it's trending: UK rock trio Band Of Skulls have sent out their third LP, Himalayan, in the US today, and the record's debut single is a hard-hitting anthem about an all-American tradition: hitting the road. I mean, I guess they drive around over in England too, but this song is perfect to help 'em break the American music market.
Best lyric line: "I went upstate / Asleep at the wheel, yeah / Double the win / Near leather feel, yeah..."
4. Thievery Corporation - Depth Of My Soul (ft. Shana Halligan)
Why it's trending: Thievery Corporation are a cult-classic trip-hop / alt-jazz duo whose music can barely be described in a sentence or two. Releasing their new album Saudade April 1st, the record's gorgeous first single is not only pretty for the music, but the lyrics as well. Give it a listen!
Best lyric line: "You believe what you see, all the things that you know / But oh, you don't know the depth of my soul..."
3. Passenger - Scare Away The Dark
Why it's trending: This single from the "Let Her Go" hit-maker may already be released in the UK, but over here in North America, we're still getting to know the British songwriter. "Scare Away The Dark" just dropped over here on the Western side of the pond, and we're smelling a new potential no.1 for Passenger around these parts.
Best lyric line: "So sing, sing at the top of your voice / Love, without fear in your heart / Feel, feel like you still have a choice / If we all light up we can scare away the dark..."
2. Christina Perri - be my forever (ft. Ed Sheeran)
Why it's trending: Christina Perri is back, and proving that she's not just a Twilight one-hit-wonder! head or heart made its way onto the shelves this lovely Tuesday, and we're loving the standout track from the album with fellow songwriter Ed Sheeran. It's all kinds of adorable.
Best lyric line: "'Darling, just swear you'll stand right by my side / Be my forever..."
1. 5 Seconds Of Summer - She Looks So Perfect
Why it's trending: You guys really love your 5 Seconds Of Summer, don't ya? The young new boy band from Down Under released their EP of the same song title in the US today, and we have no doubts in our minds that this fancy-able foursome is going to give One Direction a run for their money. Oh, and did we mention they play their own instruments? Swoon.
Best lyric line: "She looks so perfect standing there in my American Apparel underwear / And I know now, that I'm so down..."
