5 Songs Paul McCartney Might Play At The 2012 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony

The big day is finally here, people! The opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympics, set in London, England, will commence tonight and everybody is looking forward to the spectacle scheduled to appear at the Olympic stadium. Just who will be performing for the world to see? Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney has confirmed that he'll be the last act at the ceremony, so we thought we'd find his most Olympic-fitting lyrics and get Playlistin'! Here's what we think he might perform...

5. Carry That Weight

"Boy, you gonna carry that weight / Carry that weight a long time / Boy, you gonna carry that weight / Carry that weight a long time"

There's only one thing Paul's referencing when it comes to singing this song at the Olympics: the gold medal! Carry that weight, athletes!

4. Back In The USSR

"Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out / They leave the west behind / And Moscow girls make me sing and shout"

Since people from all over the world will be competing at this year's Summer Olympics, maybe Paul will sing this tune for all the international female athletes out there. ;)

3. Let It Be

"And when the night is cloudy / There is still a light that shines on me / Shine on until tomorrow, let it be"

London, England isn't necessarily the most sunny place on Earth: known for its grey skies most of the year, this lyric could possibly relate to how the athletes feel the need to press on even though the weather isn't in their favour!

2. Band On The Run

"Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash / As we fell into the sun / And the first one said to the second one there / I hope you're having fun"

We kind of think this line represents the calamity of the Olympics: it's such a whirlwind experience that you feel like you're being thrown into the sun! But you might as well enjoy it while it lasts, because it won't go on forever...

1. Live And Let Die

"What does it matter to ya, when you've got a job to do, you gotta do it well / You gotta give the other fellow hell"

Who knew that Paul McCartney had written lyrics that basically define the Olympic games? The athletes have an important job to do, gain medals for their country, and give the competition hell!

The The 2012 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony commences at 1pm PST / 4pm EST. Tune in to see what song(s) Paul McCartney performs!
