Ariana Grande's "Problem" Is Our Fave New Song This Week
Find out what other jams we're loving this #TrendingTuesday!
We don't like to think that we're biased when it comes to our music taste over here at MetroLyrics headquarters, but on today's edition of #TrendingTuesday, it seems we have new music from some of the coolest ladies in pop! Our weekly feature where we count down from 10 to 1 the best new songs of the week definitely packs a female punch, with not one, but two awesome gals (Ariana Grande & Iggy Azalea) on top of the list this week. Who else will you find on today's #TT? Why, an Internet-famous LA rapper with revered style, plus new albums from a folk rock icon to the Gorillaz frontman. Can't wait any longer to see what new tracks we're digging? Scroll on down!
10. Brody Dalle - Don't Mess With Me
Why it's trending: We're starting off the countdown with a fan favorite off Brody Dalle's debut solo LP, Diploid Love, which has the ex-Distillers frontwoman warning the world "Don't Mess With Me". We certainly wouldn't want to: Brody's a certified bada$$!
Best lyric line: "I got the feeling I can break / I love anything bad standing in my way / You're the reason I can stay / And fight you to the death / 'Cause where I stood, I will not give up..."
9. Brooke Candy - Opulence
Why it's trending: Taking a page from Gwen Stefani's "Luxurious", except turning up the rating from G to PG-13, stripper-turn-rapper Brooke Candy is one of the Internet's biggest sensations right now, and with her debut album of the same title due next week, we're kind of excited to see what she can bring to the rap game. If it's anything like this bright and shiny ode to riches, we don't think we'll be disappointed.
Best lyric line: "I'm a grown queen, doing grown things / Tryna find my hand underneath the gold rings / Make you get in line / Better recognize opulence..."
8. Pixies - Indie Cindy
Why it's trending: Back with their first new record in 23 years (their last being 1991's Trompe Le Monde), Pixies fans are freaking out over the return of the beloved early 90s alt-rockers. Indie Cindy is definitely worthy of a spin or two, especially the title track, so go ahead and press play!
Best lyric line: "Indie Cindy / Be in love with me / I beg you for to carry me.."
7. Lykke Li - No Rest For The Wicked
Why it's trending: We don't know where the global adoration for Swedish singer/songwriter Lykke Li came from over the past few years, but music fans can't wait for the release of her third record I Never Learn next week. The gorgeous first single "No Rest For The Wicked" is a hymn-like ode showcasing Li's disappointment with herself for letting her lover down.
Best lyric line: "There'll be no rest for the wicked / There's no song for the choir / There's no hope for the weary / If you let them win without a fight..."
6. Damon Albarn - Lonely Press Play
Why it's trending: The jangly, electro-pop stylings of Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn is encapsulated in his new solo LP Everyday Robots, and the second single "Lonely Press Play" keeps its theme of living in a technological world going. Feeling lonely? Press play on any of your devices to feel whole again.
Best lyric line: "Arrhythmia / Accepting that you live with uncertainty / If you're lonely press play..."
5. Jennifer Hudson - Walk It Out (ft. Timbaland)
Why it's trending: Dang, J.Hud! We're really into the new single from the R&B powerhouse, produced by the one and only Timbaland. We've heard confidence in Ms. Hudson's vocals before, naturally, but in "Walk It Out" it's totally something else. Get it, gurl.
Best lyric line: "I got you hypnotized / I got the staring and from the look in your eyes / You wanna walk it out with me..."
4. Ray LaMontagne - Drive-in Movies
Why it's trending: It's finally here! Ray LaMontagne's Supernova LP dropped today, and not to brag or anything, but we got the chance to premiere every lyric off the folk-rock songwriter's gorgeous new record. Here's the closing track, "Drive-in Movies", which has Ray reminiscing 'bout the good ol' days.
Best lyric line: "I miss those drive-in movies / I spent all my childhood years, wishin' that I looked like a movie star..."
3. Röyksopp & Robyn - Do It Again
Why it's trending: New BFFs Röyksopp and Robyn have joined forces to release an EP together, and if it sounds anything like this fist-pumper "Do It Again", sign us up to hear it first! We're loving the combo of the production duo and the pop vocalist.
Best lyric line: "Don't care what they say, it hurts so good / I don't wanna stop, I know I should / But let's do it again..."
2. Katy Perry - Birthday
Why it's trending: Ever since the drop of Katy Perry's master of disguise "Birthday" music video last week, this disco-tinged groove has been perpetually stuck in our heads. It's our birthday every day, thanks to the pop diva!
Best lyric line: "So let me get you in your birthday suit / It's time to bring out the big balloons..."
1. Ariana Grande - Fancy (ft. Iggy Azalea)
Why it's trending: Dropping this funky new single kinda outta nowhere, Ariana Grande, one of our favorite voices in pop, got some help from Iggy Azalea on "Problem". It was stated that Chris Brown was supposed to be the featured rapper on the track, but come on, it totally makes sense for Ariana and Iggy to team up and turn out this single about leaving your problematic lover behind.
Best lyric line: "Head in the clouds / Got no weight on my shoulders / I should be wiser / And realize that I've got / One less problem without ya..."
