Coldplay, Pharrell, Lea Michele Make Our Trending Tuesday List
The best new songs and singles by today's top artists are all trending this Tuesday!
Welcome to March, everybody! Now that spring is on the horizon (just a few weeks away!), pop artists are dropping new albums and singles like nobody's business, making this edition of #TrendingTuesday one of the best ones yet. This week, Coldplay has graced our ears with a brand new track, and artists like Pharrell Williams and Lea Michele have put out some of 2014's hottest releases. Why not count them down with us this Trending Tuesday?
10. David Nail - I'm A Fire
Why it's trending: Our friend and country star David Nail just released his new album, I'm A Fire, and we got to premiere the lyrics yesterday! We picked the title track to feature because Nail's lyrics written for a significant other are simply gorgeous.
Best lyric line: "Close your eyes, baby / Kiss the midnight sun / I'm a fire because of you / Oh, I'm a fire, burning blue..."
9. Eli Young Band - 10,000 Towns
Why it's trending: Continuing our country streak, we're featuring the title track off Eli Young Band's new record 10,000 Towns. Known for their tongue-in-cheek single "Drunk Last Night", this album takes a more serious route, and we're totally OK with that.
Best lyric line: "Some folks swear we ain't got one prayer left inside / But I know everything's gonna be alright / As long as this is goin on in 10,000 towns tonight..."
8. American Authors - Oh, What A Life
Why it's trending: Our buds in American Authors have been nothing but good to us -- have you seen their handwritten lyrics they gave to us??? -- so it's only fair that we cover another title track on our #TT list. "Oh, What A Life" from the AA's debut album of the same name is probably the album's best, both lyrically and musically.
Best lyric line: "Yeah I tried so hard, to forget where we are / And all we do is laugh and we sing / And we laughed oh, and we cried and thought oh, what a life..."
7. Ashanti - Don't Tell Me No
Why it's trending: Our fave R&B princess Ashanti is finally back with a new record after a few controversies with her record label(s), releasing BraveHeart for us all to hear. "Don't Tell Me No" could be our favorite track from the collection: if only Ja Rule had a verse on it...
Best lyric line: "I still look in your eyes and I can tell that you want it / Baby, don't tell me no, you be what I'm looking for..."
6. Pharrell Williams - Come Get It Bae (ft. Miley Cyrus)
Why it's trending: Pharrell just put out one of the season's hottest releases, G I R L, and has quite the meta title on his feature with pop queen Miley Cyrus. She may not be credited on "Come Get It Bae", but come on -- that's clearly Miley in the chorus!
Best lyric line: "You wanna ride it, my motorcycle / You've got a license, but you got the right to / Gonna pop a wheelie, don't try too high too / Take it easy on the clutch, cause girl I like you..."
5. Rick Ross - Nobody (ft. French Montana)
Why it's trending: We thought we'd never get to hear Rick Ross's extremely-delayed album Mastermind, but the rap mogul has finally released his 'masterpiece' and it could be one of the biggest rap albums of the year. Listen to his latest single "Nobody"!
Best lyric line: "Man, them n****s tried to play me / Man, 'til I got this paper / You're nobody 'till somebody kills you..."
4. Lea Michele - If You Say So
Why it's trending: Not only is Lea Michele's debut LP Louder out now, the album concludes with a completely emotional track dedicated to the late Cory Monteith. Titled after the last words he ever said to her, we can't even listen to "If You Say So" without tearing up.
Best lyric line: "You said I love you girl / I said I love you more / And a breath, a pause, you said, if you say so..."
3. Justin Timberlake - Not A Bad Thing
Why it's trending: As the latest single from JT's 20/20 Experience Part 2, this romantic ballad most likely penned for his significant other Jessica Biel is one of his most syrupy sweet songs yet. If you dedicated this song to your sweetie this past Valentine's Day, you did well!
Best lyric line: "I know people make promises all the time / Then they turn right around and break them / When someone cuts your heart open with a knife and you're bleeding / But I could be that guy to heal it over time..."
2. Kristen Bell & Idina Menzel - For The First Time In Forever
Why it's trending: Let's face it: after winning two Oscars for Best Animated Film and Best Original Song, the Frozen soundtrack isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Therefore, we're including yet another track from Disney's hit flick in Trending Tuesday, and this time, it's a duet from both the leading characters.
Best lyric line: "I know it all ends tomorrow / So it has to be today / 'Cause for the first time in forever / For the first time in forever / Nothing's in my way..."
1. Coldplay - Magic
Why it's trending: Get ready for a new album from Coldplay! Ghost Stories is due out at the beginning of May, and the latest song they've released from the compilation is definitely magical. "Magic" is a beautifully simply ode to the person you love (presumably sung by frontman Chris Martin to wife Gwyneth Paltrow), and we can't stop playing it.
Best lyric line: "Call it magic / Call it true / Call it magic / When I'm with you..."
