David Guetta and Sia's "Titanium" Lyrics Get #deCODED

David Guetta and Sia

One of our most beloved songs on our top 100 is David Guetta ft. Sia's uplifting "Titanium", because it's been steadily climbing the chart since its release in December 2011! We decided we'd better deCODE it to find out why you love it so much. We know the song has a positive message regarding inner strength and independence, but let's take a look at the song piece-by-piece:

You shout it loud, but I can't hear a word you say
I'm talking loud, not saying much
I'm criticized, but all your bullets ricochet
you shoot me down, but I get up

No matter what happens to the narrator of the song, they cannot be "shot down". This is an anthem for everybody who has been told they are wrong or cannot do something: it serves as inspiration to ignore the "haters" and keep moving forward.

I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away

They are already at their weakest and most vulnerable point, so nothing can be done to make the narrator feel worse.

You shoot me down, but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down, but I won't fall
I am titanium

Titanium is a strong metal that is corrosion-resistant, so nothing can break them down!

Cut me down, but it's you who'll have further to fall
Ghost town and haunted love

This verse makes it clear that the narrator is singing to her ex-flame. If he cuts her down, he's going to fall harder into the mess of their old relationship, instead of just doing the right thing and moving on. Her love will haunt him as he lays in the ruins of their relationship, AKA the "ghost town".

Raise your voice, sticks and stones may break my bones
I'm talking loud, not saying much

To intimidate him, she challenges her ex by telling him to come at her with insults: she'll just ignore them all. She will "speak" with her actions, not words, because they are much more powerful.

Stone hard, machine gun
Fired at the ones who run
Stone hard, as bulletproof glass

She tells her ex-love that she is stone hard: not going to take any nonsense from him any more. She is a machine gun who is firing at the one who ran, AKA her old flame. She can hurt him, but he cannot hurt her, because she is like bulletproof glass.
