We've been so busy blogging about Adele that we forgot to, well, blog about Adele!
"Rolling In The Deep" has been occupying our Top 3 for months now so we decided to give it the ol' deCODED treatment. While it may seem like a clear break-up tune at first look, a closer inspection begins to reveal some deeper meanings...
There's a fire starting in my heart / Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark / Finally I can see you crystal clear / Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your ship bare
Adele has clearly had it with her boyfriend's poor attitude and behavior and is ready to move on. The "fire in her heart" represents her passion and anger after finally seeing her partner's flaws in the light of day. She ends this verse alluding to the age old proverb, "what goes around comes around".
See how I'll leave with every piece of you / Don't underestimate the things that I will do
Adele warns her ex-beau of revenge, possibly in the form of a massively successful song? Yup.
Baby, I have no story to be told / But I've heard one of you and I'm gonna make your head burn / Think of me in the depths of your despair / Making a home down there as mine sure won't be shared
Adele knows that, like in most break-ups, it's a complete waste of time to grieve over or whine about your ex, but she's heard through the grapevine that he's been talkin' smack about her which only means one thing: payback.
We could have had it all / Rolling in the deep
The song's title lyrics are actually the most cryptic. "Rolling in the deep" possibly represents the depths of their love and passion for each other. Adele yearns for what "could have been" when they were so deep in love.
You had my heart inside your hand / And you played it to the beat
She regrets ever trusting him with her heart because all he did was toy around with it.
If any song can make you feel absolutely gutted by the end, it's "Rolling In The Deep". Fortunately for our girl Adele, she's recently been spotted with her new beau Simon Konecki! Here's hopin' they're in it for the long haul... Then again, we wouldn't be totally mad if she came out with more break-up songs. Just sayin'.
