Frank Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You" Gets #deCODED

Ever since Frank Ocean's tune "Thinkin Bout You" from his debut album Channel Orange was released in spring 2012, it's been burning up our Top 100 like crazy. Now, sitting pretty at no.6 on our chart, we thought that it was about time that we broke down Frank's heartfelt song that practically everybody is connecting with. Without further ado, here's Frank Ocean's #deCODED "Thinkin Bout You" lyrics...

A tornado flew around my room before you came
Excuse the mess it made, it usually doesn't rain

At first glance, this verse might look a little confusing. But hey, that's just Frank's writing style! When we look deeper, Frank is talking about a previous relationship (the tornado) that made his life a mess. Clearly, it wasn't a happy-go-lucky relationship!

In Southern California, much like Arizona
My eyes don't shed tears, but, boy, they bawl

He's comparing his emotions to the weather in the Southern US states. It barely rains there, but when it does, it's a downpour! That's exactly how Frank is: he doesn't cry much, but when he does, he bawls.

When I'm thinkin' 'bout you
(Ooh, no, no, no)
I've been thinkin' 'bout you
(You know, know, know)
I've been thinkin' 'bout you
Do you think about me still?
Do ya, do ya?

Even though Frank's tumultuous relationship is in the past, he can't stop thinking about his old flame. He desperately asks, "Do you think about me still?"...

Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh, oooh)

He thinks that his ex is the one, and wonders if they ever think the same too.

No, I don't like you, I just thought you were cool
Enough to kick it
Got a beach house I could sell you in Idaho

Now, Frank is feeling hostile. He's trying to brush off his ex-lover by attempting to deny his true feeling for them.

Since you think I don't love you, I just thought you were cute
That's why I kiss you
Got a fighter jet, I don't get fly it, though

We see in this line that his ex never really thought they were in love, but Frank saw their relationship differently. Since their entire relationship was essentially a lie, he throws out another fib, this time about having a fighter jet...pfft, he doesn't actually own one!

Yes, of course
I remember, how could I forget?
How you feel?

Frank answers his own rhetorical question: how could he forget when he first fell in love with his ex?

And though you were my first time
A new feel
It won't ever get old, not in my soul
Not in my spirit, keep it alive

It was Frank's first time falling in love, and he'll never stop thinking about it. He'll keep his ex's love alive wherever he goes.

We'll go down this road
'Til it turns from color to black and white

This line closes the song, and like the start, it refers to The Wizard Of Oz. Remember the tornado in the story that whisked Dorothy away? Now, Frank references the Yellow Brick Road from the famous tale, which represents his and his ex-love's life, which will forever continue until they're old and grey.
