We told you about the nominees of the 2012 Grammy Awards, now it's time for the predictions! We love predicting winners for awards shows and then getting together with all our friends (in our case friends who are also co-workers!) to see who got the most right. We love making a night of it with snacks and a big comfy couch and notepads for voting.
But before we get together on the night of the awards, we have to educate ourselves on the nominees so we're more likely to win (yep, we're pretty competitive!). We took a look at some of our stats and combined those with our opinions on who has the strongest lyrics to predict the winner for Song of the Year!
5. Bon Iver, "Holocene"
And at once I knew I was not magnificent / Hulled far from the highway aisle / (Jagged vacance, thick with ice) / I could see for miles, miles, miles
Bon Iver is an indie-cum-mainstream favorite artist. His lyrics are very poetic and that, along with his songwriting and musical abilities could win him the award. This song came in 5th (last) place in this category according to our stats.
4. Mumford & Sons, "The Cave"
It's empty in the valley of your heart / The sun, it rises slowly as you walk / Away from all the fears and all the faults / You've left behind
Mumford & Sons was a huge breakout band this past year so it won't be a surprise if they take it, since they're kind of the dark horse in the running. This song has beautiful lyrics and it ranks 4th in our stats.
3. Kanye West, "All of the Lights"
Restraining order / Can't see my daughter / Her mother, brother, grandmother, hate me in that order/ Public visitation
This song can get stuck in your head for days at a time. Lyrically, it's not that strong but the fact that it features heavy-hitters like Rihanna, Kid Cudi, Fergie, and Elton John could sway the voters. It comes in 3rd place according to our stats.
2. Bruno Mars, "Grenade"
I'd catch a grenade for ya / Throw my hand on a blade for ya / I'd jump in front of a train for ya / You know I'd do anything for ya
No, the lyrics in this song aren't groundbreaking BUT they do come in 2nd to Adele in our stats of the most-searched songs in this category. Also, Bruno Mars has a knack and perfect formula for the pop song.
1. Adele, "Rolling in the Deep"
The scars of your love remind me of us / They keep me thinking that we almost had it all / The scars of your love, they leave me breathless / I can't help feeling
Rolling In The Deep could easily be classified as the Song of the Year on MetroLyrics, and not even within this category but within the whole site. That's right, Adele beat out EVERY song for Most Searched Lyrics according to our stats. Plus, her lyrics are lovely and relatable. This is the most likely to take Song of the Year.
So there you have it, we know which songs we'll vote for — what are YOUR predictions? Tell us in the comments!
