Lana Del Rey Tops List of Songs You Need To Hear This Week
There's a reason these songs are #Trending this Tuesday. Find out what they are!
Ah, Tuesdays: they could be our favorite days of the week! Why? Singles and albums always come out every Tuesday, and it's our job to compile a list of the best new music just for you guys. Seeing as it's #TrendingTuesday and all, these 10 songs popped up on our radar and we definitely have a thing for them. This week, it's all about the reigning queen of melancholy pop and her latest single, as well as an up-and-coming pop-rock group from the UK and a cover of a David Bowie classic by The Electric Lady herself. Read on, music lovers, read on!
10. Naughty Boy - Pardon Me
Why it's trending: Quite possibly the newest song on this list, UK producer crew Naughty Boy have delivered this fresh single and we're totally feeling it. They've been increasing in popularity month after month, and finally about to break it big in North America. At least, that's how we feel.
Best lyric line: "Excuse me / I'm filling up your inbox with my messages..."
9. Tim McGraw - Meanwhile Back At Mama's (ft. Faith Hill)
Why it's trending: We are suckers for country. What can we say? We love this new single by husband-and-wife duo Tim McGraw and Faith Hill so much, we have to feature it multiple times a day. *tips cowboy hat*
Best lyric line: "Cause where I come from only the horses run / When the day is done, we take it easy / Meanwhile back at Mama's / The porch light's on, come on in if you wanna..."
8. Ingrid Michaelson - Over You (ft. A Great Big World)
Why it's trending: Talk about a tear-jerker. Ingrid Michaelson -- who's known for her lyrical play and adorable, folk-y sound -- teamed up with "Say Something" hit-makers A Great Big World on her brand-new record Lights Out to basically pump out a sequel to the smash song. We know both pieces aren't related or anything, but boy, are they both sad! :'(
Best lyric line: "Over, I'm so over you / The way that you look / In a 3-piece suit..."
7. Jason Derulo - Vertigo (ft. Jordin Sparks)
Why it's trending: Jason Derulo, aka the singer/producer who always Autotunes his name, just dropped his latest album Talk Dirty, and our fave track from the compilation is his feature with real-life love Jordin Sparks. It's anything but dirty talk!
Best lyric line: "Tell me that its cool that I'm stuck on you / Like your birthday suit / You give me vertigo..."
6. Chris Brown - Loyal (ft. Lil Wayne and Tyga)
Why it's trending: Yes, we understand that most of the world has a problem with Chris Brown. We're not so sure we're feeling him all that much either, but this 'comeback' single from the troubled rapper is actually surprisingly good. Bounce.
Best lyric line: "Come on, come on, girl / Why you frontin'? / Baby show me something / When I call her, she gon' leave..."
5. Alicia Keys - It's On Again (ft. Kendrick Lamar)
Why it's trending: The release of the Spider-Man 2 movie is slowly but surely creeping up on us, and Alicia Keys ft. Kendrick Lamar's pulsating contribution to the soundtrack is one of the best movie originals we've heard in a long time. Must be because it's produced by Pharrell!
Best lyric line: "I'm trying to find my way back, theres no day off for heroes / And even when I'm tired, gold is the only word I know..."
4. Childish Gambino - Sweatpants
Why it's trending: As the latest single from actor-turned-rapper Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, this could be his catchiest one yet. He knows who he is better than us, apparently, but we can't even be mad -- he may be right.
Best lyric line: "I'm winnin', yeah, yeah, I'm winnin' / Rich kid, a**hole, paint me as a villain..."
3. Janelle Monae - Heroes
Why it's trending: Recorded for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Janelle Monae's easy, breezy cover of David Bowie's classic "Heroes" is currently on repeat in our ears. What a perfect song for the game, and a perfect set of pipes to sing the uplifting track.
Best lyric line: "I will be king / And you, oh you, you will be queen / Though nothing, nothing will drag them away..."
2. Rixton - Me And My Broken Heart
Why it's trending: Is it just us, or is Rixton's "Me And My Broken Heart" everywhere? These adorable lads have put out one of 2014's catchiest singles, and they haven't even released their first album yet. Boom!
Best lyric line: "All I need is a little love in the dark / A little but I'm hoping it might kick start / Me and my broken heart..."
1. Lana Del Rey - West Coast
Why it's trending: We're kind of freaking out over the upcoming sophomore LP from our fave mistress of misery, Lana Del Rey, and if the first single is anything like what Ultraviolence sounds like, sign us up! We're loving the Dan Auerbach-produced "West Coast", which makes us feel all hazy and lazy like the West Coast itself.
Best lyric line: "Down on the West Coast, I get this feeling like it all could happen / That's why I'm leaving you for the moment..."
