Lyrics For Ben Gibbard & Zooey Deschanel

This week, indie's favorite power couple called it quits. That's right girls and boys; musician/actress Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard are separating.
The news broke on Tuesday and the split is reportedly "amicable" and "mutual". Since this must be a hard time for both of them (and, um, for us...we really liked them together OK?) we thought we'd offer our support in the best way we know how...song lyrics! Everyone has an emotional attachment to their favorite lyrics and words can help you get through some pretty hard times, take it from a former teenager ;)
Here are some lyrics we think Zooey and Ben (formerly, Beschamel) could take some comfort in:
Cried all night 'til there was nothin' more / What use am I as a heap on the floor? / Heaving devotion but it's just no good / Taking it hard just like you knew I would
Sometimes crying and letting it all out is the best therapy. You don't always have to be happy to feel better but the line here that says "What use am I as a heap on the floor?" is a nice reminder to get out and do something productive that makes you feel good.
Burn it down till the embers smoke on the ground / And start new when your heart is an empty room / With walls of the deepest blue
This is a beautiful metaphor for starting over. Sometimes you need to just cut ties with your past to move on and be ready for your future.
I was never no, never no, never enough, / But I can try, I can try to toughen up. / I listened when they told me / If he burns you, let him go.
Ahhh, feelings of inadequacy. People who have had their hearts broken know them all too well but Zooey should take her own advice here: If he burns you, let him go. Change is hard, y'all.
There's times I think of leaving / But it's something I'll never do / 'Cause you can do better than me / But I can't do better than you
Yikes. These lyrics are kind of #dark. We won't speculate as to why the couple separated but we WILL say that these lyrics sound like somebody had self-esteem issues. I'm sure when this is behind you Ben, you'll find somebody great! And so will you Zooey! Too soon?
