Our Favorite Lyrics That Pack a Personal Punch

Common is widely known for his conscious rap songs, raising political, social and romantic awareness in their listeners, so it might come as a surprise to learn that these lyrics are fresh off his ninth album, The Dreamer, The Believer, on the track "Sweet":
You get in my presence, you gon' feel like a little h*e / You ain't a man yet, you tryna be somebody else / Man, be yourself man, you come around my crib, you get your sh*t took

Not so sweet after all, are we, Common? While these lyrics seem pretty aggressive, they're actually a lot more tame than some of the toxic tongue-twisters he spat when he was just an up and comer. In fact, Common recently sat down with XXL where he listed off some of the foulest lines of his career and talked about the revival of his sharp tongue.

We found Common's lyrical rude boy past so enlightening that it inspired us to compile some of our favorite lyrics that challenge the old saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

Cry Me A River - Justin Timberlake

Girl I refuse you must have me confused / With some other guy, the bridges were burned / Now it's your turn to cry / So cry me a river

Even though Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were the pop couple that dreams are made of, we're sort of glad they broke up because it gave us the masterpiece that is "Cry Me A River".

You Oughta Know - Alanis Morrisette

And I'm here to remind you / Of the mess you left when you went away / It's not fair to deny me / Of the cross I bear that you gave to me

A classic tune for any and all female road trips (dudes, it's totally cool if you're down with this song, too), in which Alanis lashes out at an old flame. How about that awkward moment when you realize it's written about Uncle Joey from Full House... Cut. It. Out.

The Real Slim Shady - Eminem

Will Smith don't gotta cuss in his raps to sell his records / Well I do, so f*ck him and f*ck you too / You think I give a d*mn about a Grammy? / Half of you critics can't even stomach me, let alone stand me

You might want to wear a pair of steel-toed shoes when you listen to this song, 'cause Em drops names left, right and center. We kinda miss this Eminem. The Eminem that openly ridiculed the entire music industry for being oh so politically correct. His hair is bleached again though, so we're holding out for a Real Slim Shady comeback real soon.

Best Thing I Never Had - Beyoncé

I said you turned out to be the best thing I never had, / Mmm, and I'll never be the best thing you never had, / Oh, baby, I bet it sucks to be you right now

You broke up with one of the world's most beautiful, powerful, and influential celebrities? Yeah, it would suck to be you right now.

What did we tell ya? Words hurt, yo! While these lyrics may not be as lethal as other "diss" lines, they certainly don't hold back. Did we miss any of your favs? Let us know below!
