Playlistin: Songs That Celebrate Womanhood!

September is a special month for a few reasons. Labor Day, Back to School, Happy Cat Month (???). But the most important event that happens in September is often overlooked...

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Unfortunately, most women aren't totally comfortable with being completely open about what's going on "downstairs" — but as the seventh most common cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women, ovarian cancer is definitely something that needs to be brought to light.

So in support of your friends, mothers, sisters, daughters, and selves, speak up and show love for your fellow women. And since it's a tough topic to speak on sometimes, we've found some inspirational songs whose lyrics can help you out:

1. Can't Hold Us Down - Christina Aguilera feat. Lil' Kim

Thinking all women should be seen not heard / So what do we do, girls, shout louder / Lettin' em know we're gonna stand our ground / Lift your hands higher and wave 'em proud / Take a deep breath and say it loud

Xtina and Lil' Kim know how to hold down the female fort like no other. If there were a street water fight, I'd defs want these strong ladies on my team.

2. Man! I Feel Like A Woman - Shania Twain

I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel / Man, I feel like a woman / Oh yeah / The best thing about bein' a woman / Is the prerogative to have a little fun

It's not a girls night out without Shania. I almost even wanted to use the opening "Let's go girls" as the pull quote for this. "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" is all about not trying to fit into that cookie-cutter idea of a "lady," but just being your fabulous self instead.

3. Keep Ya Head Up - 2Pac

And since we all came from a woman   /   Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman   /   I wonder why we take from our women   /   Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?   /   I think it's time to kill for our women / Time to heal our women, be real to our women

Who would've thought the most sentimental lyrics on this list would come from a man. That's 2Pac for ya. he may be a tough guy on the outside, but he's got a soft spot and mad r-e-s-p-e-c-t for the ladies.

4. Rebel Girl - Bikini Kill

Love you like a sister always   /   Soul sister, Rebel girl   /   Come and be my best friend   /   Will you Rebel girl?   /   I really like you

"Rebel Girl" is straight up love for your best girlfriend. We all have that one girl who's got the same beliefs as us on all fronts. Music, fashion, school, politics, boys, art, ANYTHING...and if you're lucky enough, you're the same clothing size, too. Shoutout to our BFFs who are there for us through thick and thin!

5. Run The World (Girls) - Beyonce

Boy you know you love it   /   How we're smart enough to make these millions   /   Strong enough to bear the children   /   Then get back to business

Beyonce's not afraid to vocalize her diva-ness (the female version of a hustler, that is). Queen B is here to remind us that not only can we make as much money (and then some) as men, but we can do that AND grow a baby in our stomachs at the same time. Wow.

Hopefully this playlist helps you spend your September celebrating womanhood! GIRL POWER.
