Every Halloween we hear the same tired spooky tunes; "Monster Mash", "Abracadabra", and the "Ghostbuster's Theme Song". All three songs are classic Halloween staples, but if you check out their lyrics, they're far from frightening. "Abracadabra" is just about being under the spell of love, and "Monster Mash" chronicles monsters at a party dancing to a house band fronted by Dracula. What gives? Where are all the scary songs at?
Enter V101.9's Scariest Hip Hop/R&B Music Videos list. The playlist hosts a handful of music videos with a modern take on spooky visuals, but the part we're most excited about is that the lyrics are actually scary, too! Here are a few that remind us to keep our doors shut and basement windows locked:
When I'm in the shower I'm afraid to wash my hair / 'Cause I might open my eyes and find someone standing there / People say I'm crazy, just a little touched / But maybe showers reminds me of Psycho too much
Before Antoine Dodson was around, we had Rockwell warning us of home intruders. Nothing's scarier or creepier than knowing a stranger's been lurking around your home getting their dirty paws on all your stuff. Yuck!
It's a thief in the night to come and grab you / It can creep up inside you and consume you / A disease of the mind it can control you / I feel like a monster, oh
If someone breaks into your house at least you can call the cops, or just tell them to beat it. A mind invader, though? Now that's eerie.
You've gotta call me man / I'll be the biggest fan you'll ever lose / Sincerely yours, Stan / P.S. We should be together too
Stalkers are totally freaky because they have this irrational obsession. It's one thing to want to look like your fav celeb-but to think that y'all belong together is going a little bit off the deep end. Stan freaked the world out so much that he even got his own verb and noun "[to] stan" which mixes elements of a STalker and a fAN.
