2012 In Review: The 5 Best Lyric Videos Of The Year

Lyric videos have just gained popularity in the last two years or so and boy are we glad about that! It's so fun to hear an artist's song for the first time (they're usually released right when the song comes out) and learn the lyrics at the very same time. But lyric videos can be about more than just learning the lyrics; they can entertain us, touch our hearts, and mesmerize us with cool visuals. Here are our picks for the 5 best lyric videos this year...

5. Maroon 5 - Payphone feat. Wiz Khalifa

We love Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa both for their romantic lyrics on "Payphone" and for their sense of humor: they made the lyric video for this heartfelt break-up song in a really funny sci-fi comic book style. Even though the track is sad, doesn't mean the lyric vid has to be!

4. Katy Perry - The One That Got Away (Acoustic + Chords)

This is the first lyric video we've ever seen that included guitar chords. For the musically inclined, guitar chords are also useful to learn a song on piano too, and we thought it was awesome that Katy Perry was acknowledging her fans who like to play music! Hopefully this video inspires more artists to do the same.

3. Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Taylor Swift's fans are usually skewed in the tween/teen-girl demographic and this video was sure to delight that group specifically. It reminds us of passing notes back and forth with our girlfriends in class or writing in our diary, and it perfectly mirrors the gossip-y tone of this break-up tune.

2. Nelly Furtado - Spirit Indestructible

...And now for something completely different! Nelly Furtado used the lyric video for her song "Spirit Indestructible" to raise awareness about her friend Spencer West who was born without working legs. The video follows along with West's journey to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and promotes the charity Free The Children all the while displaying the inspiring lyrics to the song.

1. Ke$ha - C'mon

Cute baby animals just cannot be beat, you dig? In the "C'mon" lyric video, Ke$ha combines trippy imagery with kitties, puppies, bunnies, ducks, and baby tigers. What more could you want from a lyric vid?
