The 5 Best Surprise Performances From Coachella 2014: Week 1
Beyonce! Jay Z! Bieber! See who sneakily made their way onstage during Week 1 of Coachella!
Weekend one of Coachella 2014, one of the world's most talked about music festivals, went down this past weekend, and it brought out quite the handful of superstars. Headliners like Lorde, Lana Del Rey, and OutKast brought their A-Game to the fest, making this year's festival lineup just as star-studded as usual. It might usually be considered rather rude to crash somebody's performance, but for pop-stars of this level, it's more of an honor than an offense. These were the biggest and best surprise performances from Coachella 2014, week one: count them down from 5 to 1 with us!
5. Arcade Fire with Debbie Harry
Seeing as Arcade Fire is currently full-swing on their Reflektor kick -- complete with disco-tinged new songs and mirror-themed costumes & stage design -- it made sense that the group has been covering Blondie's classic hit "Heart Of Glass". And who joined the alt-rockers onstage when they knocked out their version of the track? Blondie's Debbie Harry, naturally. She also stuck around to sing "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)": a fan favorite from AF.
4. Pharrell with Gwen Stefani
Pharrell probably had one of the buzzed-about sets at Coachella this year, since he's worked with practically everybody in the music business (Snoop Dogg and Major Lazer both showed up for his slot!). What made the producer's set one of the best? Gwen Stefani popped up out of nowhere to stomp out to "Hollaback Girl", which the pair wrote together for her first solo album back in the mid-2000s. B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
3. Chance The Rapper with Justin Bieber
Now this was a shocker nobody saw coming! The Biebs has been lying low in Miami, Florida, presumably recording for his forthcoming record, so when buzzworthy hip-hop star Chance The Rapper took the Coachella stage and Bieber joined in, the crowd (and the Internet) went haywire. Check out the fan-filmed video above, where Justin croons out "Confident" that Chance is featured on -- although you can barely hear it, due to the screaming audience!
2. Nas with Jay Z
Back in the early 2000s, the world of hip-hop saw one of its biggest feuds in history: Nas vs. Jay Z. Although it quietly settled as the years went by, one of Coachella 2014 's biggest surprises was Jay showing up for Nas' set, and performing "Dead Presidents II" with him! Looks like the feud's finally been put to rest, ladies and gents.
1. Solange with Beyonce
Not to be outdone by husband Jay Z, looks like Queen Bey wanted to surprise Coachella attendants as well! Showing up during sister Solange's set, Beyonce danced alongside her sis as she crooned "Losing You", and the performance was just like a pair of sisters dancing in front of the mirror in their bedroom. So adorable.
